anyways, excuse me for venturing off topic
but to relate, in my opinion, street racing and drag racing to me is not true racing, that's IMHO so using nitrous oxide is just another application for the lower form of racing and I dont consider it cheating
anyways, for autocross, whatever variables you have with your kiddy racing is multiplied because you have to consider the type of tires, the suspension, the advance aerodynamics, and the shape of the car. This, i think takes more skill than just another STeve Papadakis putting an expanded 2k1 civic shell on a prelude engine and slapping fat slicks on it.

dude, joe needs to calm down. he's not some teacher, and if he is, he shouldn't be spending his time trying to teach people that don't like him. anyways, i don't think NOS (just for you joe) is cheating. however, i'm not going to be setting up a NOS system untill i get all my other mods done... (header, exhaust, cam gear, vtec controler, maybe even port and polish) then i'll be saving for my NOS kit.
btw, i like that pic you got there AB, i once had a shirt with that on it and i walked into a internet chat coffee bar and everybody started staring at me, so i quickly left there in fear for the safety of my screen name

sadly.. as hard as it is for me to agree with the normally ignorant chump, joeb16, i believe his argument is quite plausible.
anyhoo.. using nitrous in a race is not considered cheating, unless of course, the other racing parties do not know you have it or that you are going to use it. surely you shouldn't have to announce that you have it.
in a high stakes race, if you trigger nitrous, it's too bad for the other guy if he can't keep up or doesn't have it. if he's racing you.. he must believe he can win and he shouldn't match his car up and expect to win, if he doesn't know what's under your hood. it's not your job to tell him you have nitrous.
oh.. btw joeb16.. your cousin/sister/aunt/daughter/grandmother e-mailed me a pic of herself..

you really gotta stop with the imbreeding

I think NOS is not cheating. A mod is a mod. NOS may be one of the cheapest ways to add power. But my point is this. It would be cheating if no one else could have it. You can spray your NOS, but you never know if they have NOS either. If you dont' have NOS, try not to race someone who does. Or if you have a Turbo and other mods, etc, you may still win with NOS. I raced a guy who had just installed 100-shot NOS on his 2001 Prelude. Needless to say he lost because he couldn't keep his wheels sticking to the ground and he did nothing but waste rubber.

finally somebody on my side
Maybe I should rephrase my thoughts....NOS (nitrious...whatever u wanna call it) isn't cheating really...cheating is more like breaking set rules...and in "street racing" there really are not set rules. Therefore it wouldn't not be cheating. I guess what I'm trying to say is I do not respect the use of it.
Oh and AB I really don't like that pic you attached...my lil bro has down syndrome...

Well, I think everyone is entitled to their opinions. And when it comes to this subject, the opinions can be very strong.
As far as skill goes? Those who say it doesn't take skill to use nitrous have obviously never seen what happens if you miss a gear while spraying a motor. (automatics of course ARE an exception) And those of you who say it doesnt take skill to pull 9 seconds OR LESS! in the quarter mile have obviously never driven a car with the capacity (i.e. HP) to pull those kinds of times in the quarter mile, as they can often be quite difficult to control. It is often best for the person who knows the car well enuff to drive it down the track without goin off into the stands or nearby lake, or blowing the tranny, etc., etc.
I DO think it's cheating if you are racing someone and neglect to inform them that you are spraying. I don't think it's cheating when a Mustang GT pulls up at the light next to you and decides to pick on on your 4 banger. It all depends on the situation I guess. But N2O is forced induction, just as superchargers and turbochargers are. If someone pulls an 8 in the 1/4 mile solely on motorworjk and nitrous...they still pulled the 8 second time did they not? And they will still be recognized for it will they not? THAT'S WHY THEY MAKE THESE BRACKETS IN 1/4 MILE RACING.

gotta agree with Phillippe01 when he said
<< cheating is more like breaking set rules...and in "street racing" there really are not set rules >>
Sure I will agree that maybe it kinda hits below the belt for the guy ur racing, but I also believe in anything to get ur a$$ across the finish line as fast as possible

Who the hell cares if it is cheating or not, it is really hard to say that anything is fair when racing cars. I mean, technically who ever has the most money and is will to f*ck their car up the most will win if not all....most of the time. Yes the driver has something to do with it but most of the time its $$$

thats why I dont like the whole car racing thing too much anymore...I did real sports for 4 years..running track....and in that there is no equivilent of NOS or performance parts...just skill and how well u prepare urself...
I dont think it is cheating. I got to the drag strip about every other weekend, not to race but watch. The common things i hear the most about nitrious is "If you not spaying you should assume that the other person is" or something like that. In other words just about everyone has it. Must just use it when the race is close or if they are losing and need the extra HP. But then again that is bracket racing and not street racing but that just my opinion. BTW, I hurt my sides laughing at Joe B16's pic two pages back.
I REST MY CASE ALL YOU HATERZ OUT THERE TRYING TO SAY THAT NITROUS IS CHEATING SUCK ON THIS
Of course its not cheating, unless you tell the person your not running nitrous, then yea it propbably is, but if someone sees your car and wants to race then all is far in love and war. Race to win. If you want race where everybody is the same join NASCAR.
NOS, nitrous has become quite mainstream. It's a competitive world we live in. Though it wouldn't be fair, non-nitrous vs. nitrous. But it would be hard to know, unless someone tells you, you have seen that person race before or you see what's under the hood.

shyt (pronounced SHY-ITE)! The whole nos thing depends on what a person considers cheating or not. I f you have nos and the next guy doesn't he'll consider it cheating! You won't!
In my opinion, , its a COLUMN A and COLUMN B opinion. @ first I thought it was "steroids" for your car, but now I just think Its a mod. If you race an NA car against a NOS car, It's cheating, man it depends on the situation. If you win against the NA car I hope you dont feel to proud. But if you lose to an NA car, oh SHYT, nough said.
(not saying that all NA cars are slow, or not worthy, I've witnessed an NA 10 second 1/4 mile)
But again, it all depends on the sit., the driver, the car, and . . . actually especially the driver. the driver wins the race not the car.
ANd as for "fast and the furious", with all that tech help, I wonder why there were so many mistakes
for example "double clutch" in a 1/4 (not impossible just weird)" and a SR20DET (which is a nismo 180sx engine JSPEC) in a S2000, is beyond me. If you can fit it go ahead, if you want less horses . . . why?
any way. . . yeah that's it!
