of course thats not necessarily bad, sohcam v6 weighs lot less than dohc which has 4 cams and its real heavy. but yeah tl is a sohc to save on the weight

^^^ I was wondering the same, it's SOHC but it still has 2 cam shafts..... so DOHC V6 would make it quad cam.

yes youre right one cam for each head, but some cars have a setup with only one cam period, v8's and v6's with just one cam built into the block itself pushing long rods to push the lifters

^wouldnt that be a push rod engine?

the v6 would have two cams because the cylinders are in a V shape
you cant just have one cam go across all of them you would need one for every three

if I had to pick a car in that price range, i would go with a 330xi, C320 compressor, A4, or a G35 sedan. I think all those cars are better than the TL, but thats just my opinion. Specially the G35, i love that thing!

i guess you thought wrong... =) I like the interior of the tl. probably th best fwd car in the class, but if you want better preformce, theres other cars out, the next 3 series will have a function that automattically dry your wheels in the rain you could get better stopping power when the brakes are applied.

simply put, a pushrod engine has the cam burried in the block and PUSHRODS connecting it to the valves, usually only 2 valves.

where as a SOHC has on cam in each head, no mater if it 2,3, or 4 valves per cyl. And, a DOHC has 2 Cams per head, and typically 4 or 5 valves per cyl.

"The main reason to use double overhead cams is to allow for more intake and exhaust valves. More valves means that intake and exhaust gases can flow more freely because there are more openings for them to flow through. This increases the power of the engine." from how stuff works.com anyways, so if honda made a 3.2L V6 with DOHC, it will pump more hp out?

So wait, is the 3.2l v6 in the TL the same as the NSX with just different cam setup?

to some extent, it varies in boreXstroke but yes it's almost the same, the tl had to be detuned somewhat because it wouldn't be reasonable for honda to sell a car with an engine as powerfull as their beast NSX for like 50k less

Advantages to having a DOHC engine over a SOHC is that the engine has twice as many intake and exhaust valves as a SOHC motor. This makes the engine run cooler and more smoothly, quietly, and efficiently.

Generally, engines with dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) are higher performance engines, they produce more power, and can run at higher speeds than SOHC. The biggest difference is that the DOHC has two camshafts, one thats controls the exhaust valves and the other that controls the intake. The SOHC just has one that regulates both. So the DOHC has better performance b/c of the two independent camshafts.

I love the TL, drove a 6speed a few months back. Pretty quick, its a honda, and torque steer is fun.

TL > G35

g35 looked nice at first, now they are kinda annoying.

ok a noob saibot question, is the g35 based on the maxima platform or the altima platform? i thought the previous gen are based on the maxima platform, but this gen i think is based on the altima. maybe im incredibly noob but i think the maxima is bigger than the g35.
i thought it would be fair to have a g35 platform based on the altima as if the TL is based on the accord platform.
iono.

^ the g35 isnt based on either, it is based on the 350z platform but streched 8 inches.
the altima and maxima are fwd, whereas the g35 is rwd. the murano is based on the altima platform and the fx34/45 is based on the g35/350z platform.

the NSX has a C series block and the TL has a J series block. just because they are both same displacement and all, doesn't mean they are the same.

also, in response to kasimmmmm - i sell both BMW and Acura/Honda at my dealership... BMW SUCKS COMPLETE CRAP. they may be prestigeous, but that doesnt change the fact they fall apart. i would be willing to bet we have AT LEAST twice as many BMW warrenty claims as all of the Honda and Acura claims combined. plus, the BMW has less hp, 1 less gear for a very similar weight, costs about $7,000 more - i could go on and on.... im not flaming your post, but facts are facts. you can still LIKE the bimmer more.... but thats an uphill battle.

I do agree with you.. i've heard a lot about BMWs reliability as well... but what about the G35 sedan? I personally think it can eat up a TL, spit it out and have it again for a 2nd helping. I mean that car is pure SICK! The TLs torque sucks ***!

And then there's the C320 compressor, A4 3.0L, or especially the IS300. I can think of several cars that I personally think are better than the TL. I'm not a fan of the acura line-up and would never buy an acura. But thats just my personal opinion. No offense to honda/acura fanatics.

On a different note, since we're discussing SOHC vs DOHC, its pretty interesting how mercedes is one of the only manufacturers (high end) that are running on SOHC, and its amazing how they can still get there cars to perform so well. Its all in their technology!

I'd rather drive an IS300, A6, C320 compressor and a lot more over the TL any day.
I like my civic, its awesome an awesome car for its price. But I don't think the same for the TL. There are a lot better luxury cars out there than the TL.
And I LOVE the compressor... it comes with AMG bumpers, sooo freakin' sexy.
