Well the first time i tried to see how fast i could get mine 01 dx maual i got to 113 and the gov. kickedin. I didnt redline it in 4th though. The next time, i redlined it every gear oncei hit 113 it kinda kicked in and then it just let me go and i hit 118 but i had to slow down.

he is right about top speed and all. i hit the limiter in my 02 lx 5-speed today @ 114 mph while still in 4th gear with about 200 rpm to go plus all of 5th gear. i belive his calculations are right.

I'm not sure who was talking about it, I dont really care, but being limited by drag means that the air going around and behind your car is so fast, its creating a strong enough vaccum so that it actually pulls your car backwards thus keeping forward acceleration from happening. Horsepower wont save you from aerodynamics.
that's just simply incorrect. it's simple physics. the forward FORCE output of the car equals the FORCE AGAINST the car once you reach a certain speed. hence... drag limited. unless you increase the FORCE (hp) you can't surpass the resistance FORCE against your car. so when force = resistance.... the car will go no faster. increase the force, and the car can now go faster with that much more resistance before the two equal out again.

we are saying, if you had enough HP and removed the governor, yes a civic's theoretical top speed (according to it's gearing) is in the 160-177 area depending on the trim level

uh, if you remove the governor and get enoug hp. yes it can. (i think a turbo would probably do it) the car may not exactly be stable at those speeds, but theoretically if you had enough power (ie, turbo) the car can top out at those speeds.

1st lesson don't argue with S2000 . He is smarter than most people on this site, except me because I have a degree and he does not (J/K S2000). Second, though believe that your calculations are correct (yes I check them). The scientist in me says we must test this hypothesis. So to the first step how do I remove the speed limiter (that kicks in at 110 if you all must know) from my car?? The next step is to find a GIANT hill that can use the forces of gravity to push my ex manual to its geared potential (step one must be completed before we even think about step two). Maybe I should wear a helmet hmmm

about removing ur governor, i know my friend (well my friends uncle but i know him pretty well) has a computer program that can remove the speed governor from ECU's. dont ask me how but he already did it to his grand am, and actually he got some extra ponies out of it too lol. ok but yeah he said he doesnt have any program to do it to imports but there are some out there just gotta find someone with it.

yeah there are ways, but it's not technically legal to do to a car driven on the street.

First off I HAVE READ lol
i think what this thread is trying to tell us is the potential of our transmission.. the only problem which everyone is discussing is the engine. which is a very big problem. (a big slow problem) yes i do believe our transmission can get us up to 160-170 mph the only problem is that maybe people arent realizing that doint simple things like a turbo or a bunch of bolt ons. will not be enough to do this i mean get real unless you have endless road this wont happen because you have to realize any car can do this "if the conditions are right" so in the long run our car is nothing special really. why dont we all settle this and find the guy who is running 500 whp on this forum and ask him what he has gotten it up to because im pretty sure he is on our transmission.

sidenote: i dont really agree with this all im just trying to make sense of it to myself , oh and btw i think our fifth gear absolutely sux and is there just to keep rpm down on highway speeds.

(im curious as to what calculations you did exactly...-not tryin to be a ****-)

the thing is that you are wrong for saying that our cars would "fall apart at those speeds". Name a OEM honda part that has not done (tires are not made by honda), let alone will do 170mph. Yea I agree that the design of the car has alot to do with it, but a saturn has gone over 200mph given the time and right conditions there is not a car that would physically be unable to handle extream speeds such as 170 mph. Could the driver handle it well that is another question

no that is the entire point of this topic is what our trannys will allow our cars to get up to. It uses the gear ratios to figure out the final speed. If you want the equations read the entire post and click on S2000s links. The speeds he gives are the speeds that our trannys will alow
