Someone else did these conversions once and concluded that the 5 speed EX would top out at 142.5mph. That feels about right to me.
Not to nit pick, just from personal experience I don't see about 200rpms doing almost 20 extra mph. Sorry man, great comparitive info though.

Sup Farage. I have an '03 civic EX sedan with Falen Ziex 205/50/15 tires. I've gotten up to 115mph. Since the speedometer is off by 6%, that translates to 108.1mph. But if we have a limiter earlier than that, then the ECU shouldn't know if if it's going 115mph or 108mph. So conclusion? I still don't know what my max speed is...kinda scared to try it out on the freeway. I want to make my first million bucks and drive a better car than a civic before calling quits in this life.

Rep Power: 278 These mph numbers stop are when the car hits the redline, right?
So say I take it into the redline, I may be able to get the lx auto up to 180?

We are saying, in theory, that is what our car could reach. None of our cars will probably ever see above 150, but in theory, if we had these "perfect" conditions our cars would reach those speeds..
Do the calculations if you don't believe it.

I meant.. Do these calculations stop at redline.. When calculating top speed, do you stop at the redline or would, in theory, you have to run it into the redline in order to reach a speed like that?
Hope that is easier to understand

HOWEVER, if you remove the governor and have more power.... ie, turbo anyone? you CAN get to the speeds i posted. that's what your stock gearing/tire size will top you out at.

I'll estimate 145mph tops. 177mph is kinda out of the league. Our redline would come way before we hit that speed.

it's a simple math calculation people. it's plain old fact. i'm not just pulling these numbers out of my ***. ****, plug the numbers in yourself.
http://www.mysportscar.com/tools/topspeed.htm
the EX for example
tire width: 185
aspect ratio: 65
wheel diameter: 15 inches
rev limit: I put 6800rpms to be safe
overdrive gear ratio: EX manual is .757 (this is your top gear.... 4th auto, 5th manual)
final drive ratio: 4.11
hit calculate.... 159mph for a stick shift EX. that's what your 5th gear will top out at (or close to that) if you could remove the speed limiter and had enough hp to get that high.

Rep Power: 0 Oh and there seems to be something going on about drag limited and hp, well even if you had 1000hp your car will always be drag limited unless you change the way air moves around your car, so you don't need anymore hp to get to your 160mph top speed, just a long enough road. I'm not sure who was talking about it, I dont really care, but being limited by drag means that the air going around and behind your car is so fast, its creating a strong enough vaccum so that it actually pulls your car backwards thus keeping forward acceleration from happening. Horsepower wont save you from aerodynamics.

Rep Power: 286 COMPLETE BS we dont have the power to get to that speed unless whe have a highway that wraps straight around the world and the wind to our backs
almost all of our parts arent even worthy of standing up to those speeds.
i have a 5spd. lx and yes it is governed and i feel it kick in at about 112-113 mph so our top speed is what we are governed at for now and if we all took of our governers i doubt the car can get past 125-(maybe)-130
(mini cooper s is bmw made with 165 hp in a six speed that is a hell of a lot lighter and it tops out at 126 )

i go to college to be an automotive technician (no im not trying to be a hotshot i know its not a big deal) and in these classes i take we learn things things like what a part can withstand and what makes parts fail. now my question to you is do you think that A. our cars really can withstand these speeds and not have anything snap or break on us? and B. that anyone in here could control a civic at 150-170 mph ? sorry but cars have to be specially made to do things like that japanese cars arent exactly known for having a sturdy and stiff front end at high speeds like german cars are. now maybe someone had too much time and did calculations but the fact is that math isnt always right. i agree that math wise yea they should do that but are you then trying to tell me that chevy just wasted there time and money trying to make a corvette sturdy enough and strong enough to withstand speeds of 185+ mph (on perfectly flat racetracks) because people can just buy a civic instead

Rep Power: 256 Hmm interesting. It seems to me that maybe place of production of our Vics has something to do with the governor. Me myself, i have a lightweight flywheel stage 1 clutch, intake full exhaust and vtec controller and i reached 130mph it was hard but up to 120 it wasn't so i dont know what are you guys talking about. 110mph speedlimiter i cal it BS.
