K24 Question..........
K24 Question..........
Hey guys and gals. Ok, I'm starting to dabble in the thoughts of an engine swap.......LOL, hopefully before my lease is up. Don't ask me why. I just think it would be SO DAMN COOL to roll up for one of my free oil changes under warranty, have the mechanic open the hood, and see a K24. I have weird dreams......ANY-HOO, I was thinking of going with a complete K24 out of a CRV for that sweet sweet torque. The engine tranny setups are inexpensive. My question is this, ARE THERE ANY SUPERCHARGERS for the K24 WITHOUT the Type S head? I want super charger and not a turbo. I'm not looking for a 9K redline Queen, just something strong with killer low end torque (daily driver). I appreciate ANY info you would have. If you're mad that I didn't perform a search, then don't respond.

Supossidly the K24 doesn't fit in the civic EX with the haspbort mounts, it only fits in the si. The darn thing doesn't clear the hood. I was in the same predicament as you last week. Its much cheaper than a k20a2.

from what I've seen it's damn hard to get that block and a different head...but good luck with it.
What part doesn't clear the hood? I hear the Fibre Images CF hood works though.

So, the K20 will fit but the K24 won't? Damn, that saddens me deeply. Does anyone know for sure if the Fiber Images hood will make that work. I could always cut out some of the bracing under the hood if thats the case. I have all the capabilities to do that. Any more info would be cool. Oh yeah, no one said if there was a supercharger for the K24.........

Dudes the worlds would be a faster and better place if we could buy k20a's for $1000.
Has anyone here ever considered a complete engine rebuild? bore the engine, better pistons and valve springs....all that engine I'm not going to mention cause I don't have any idea what I'm talking about.

That's exactly why I want to do the K24. They are dirt cheap compared to the K20. The torque is great too. The revs aren't as great so you would need to be a little more careful when you layed into it but you slap an MSD setup with a specific rev limiter chip and all is good.
Here's my theory, and I'm probably WAY the hell off but here goes: The K24 achieves max torque at a much lower RPM than its sister the K20. So I'm coming off the line during a race and I will hit my max toque sooner than the RSX I'm racing. Also, I have more toque than the other guy. Due to my lower redline point, I will be through the gears sooner, making me at my max everything quicker. YES...NO.....anyone care to elaborate? Am I way off?

I guess it would be better in a straightline. And you wouldn't have to shift as much if you wanted to go fast, in daily driving situations. But more more torque and the nose of the car would be heavier. I'm guessing handling would be sacrified.

I never said I was gonna do this all in one shot. I went to school for 5 years to become a mechanical engineer. I work for my loot. You just piece things together when you can. My plan would be buy the engine and do what I'm gonna do with it. I have an Integra that I can drive when I'm ready to install the engine.
As far as handling, how much more does the engine weigh? With proper shocks and spring it shouldnt be a problem. HHmm, I wonder due to the taller block if my front strut tower brace would still fit. DAMNIT!!!! I want this to work.

OK. Another theory. The K24 is a longer block due to a longer stroke. This is what makes it not fit under the EX hood? Lets say I want a K and still want to save money. How about a K20A3 out of the Base RSX? Will that fit and will the Jackson Racing super charger fit it? Sorry for all the stupid questions and theories but just trying to save some money and have fun with the car.

I was wondering about the K20a3 myself cause its also something that can be purchased cheap. But I was wondering if it was worth the trouble to swap.
Bro I hear you on the going to school and earning your money and all(Its hard to bring in the bling when you working on salary, in Canada you get taxed hardcore). I'm in the same situation as you thats why it bothers me when I see a 18 year old with a 350 Z or STI. You know what I'm saying, I guess its better this way since when I get one of those cars I'll appreciate and enjoy it much more than those guys did.

my take on this .. well i would definatly swap the si motor with the spr charger .. just easier imo with daily drivability.. as far as shifting faster than a type S or R with lsd .. wont be that big of a difference.. trannies made with those motors are pretty quik.. if the k24 doesnt fit.. cf monster hoods always suffice.. but hey .. im all for it .. anyway u go ur going to be in the low 14s or faster.. good luck man..
I think a K24 for straightline sounds a lot more rewarding than the K20A. Unless you can put a lot of torque in all those revs, then the K20A, but I imagine it'd be easier with the engine that's already producing it thanks to it's higher displacement.
I don't see how the K24 would affect handling, but granted it's made for cars 3200lbs+, I could imagine some undesirable understeer in a little 2500lbs Civic.
But if your goal is to go straight, then it's nothing to worry about. If you like the twisties, it's been reported Civics do handle better after the K20A2 swaps.

First of all, thanks for all your responses guys. Yes I am leasing the car. I have a weird inability to leave things alone. Besides, the car is just over a year into it's lease and I already have 26K on her, so needless to say I will be buying the car.

doesnt Canada (aka America Light) pay alot of taxes out of your paychecks due to the socialized medicine? I by no means have a ton of money. Quite frankly I am in minor debt that I am slowly getting out of. I have pieced my Integra together over the past 3 years and she is in her final stages now. It pisses me off too to see high school kids in 350Z's, STi's, etc. Most of them don't respect the cars and end up flipping them just so Mom & Dad can buy them another one. Seen that one too many times around here.

I would love to see the progress of your install. Can you give us MASSIVE DETAILS on how you did it, cost, problems, parts needed etc? Maybe you should make a DYI on it. I would appreciate that like you wouldn't believe. I'm sure many others would as well. BTW, is the K24 TSX different from the K24 Accord/Element/CRV that would allow it to fit in the civic? Or are you doing something to make it fit?

I meant supercharge the K swap in the civic
Well looks like I really need to do some outside research. Maybe I could call Hasport and give you guys the lowdown. Do I think the K24/K20A3 would be worth it? I was thinking about it on the way home from work. What kind of money would you have to sink into the D17 to get 160-200 HP? You would have to spend about 3 G-Notes for a nice Stafford Turbo. I have seen K24's with tranny for 1-2 G's. Plus, the K has significant N/A and boost potential. For now, I'm going to Maine for a couple days to relax. Keep this thread open and please write in with more responses/thoughts or ideas. Maybe we can all put our heads together and come up with a sweet, relatively low cost K Civic. Just one man's opinion................................See ya
