Lol to the freeway vtec. Yeah when I'm cruising at 65mph the vtec is off. Then I push the gas a bit and vtec light comes on and stays on, but there's absolutely no difference at all!

Not that I know of. And it does have a "VTEC controlled cylinder idling system"

Exactly! And thats because cams for vtec works most efficiently at one engine speed, which sucks. And thats only once the certain engine speed threshold is crossed.

You can vary the timing of the events by advancing or retarding the camshaft, which will improve bottom or top end power, depending on which way you move the cam.

But then again, you can't have it both ways. Getting power and performance at low AND high revs is impossible - unless you could somehow vary the cam's timing and lift based on engine speed.

And its really not a big deal... ricers need to stop "Vtec"ing all over the place. Most cars have similar technology to this now... if not better!

That's why Honda should come out with the K40A K-Series V8, like I said in the other thread. It should have variable valve timing, electronic lift control, 5 valves per cylinder, variable intake manifold geometry, individual velocity stacks, variable intake runner length, and um... (throw in X really cool high-tech piece of automotive gadgetry just for the heck of it) hahaha Then they could have the most uberest engine ever... Don't worry, you guys don't have to, I'll go smack myself around on my own.

Damn 5 pages later, and it's still going? All I know is that Honda created V-TEC in order to improve fuel consumption and emissions.

It's like I've said before, the car basically drives around on fuel efficient mode, until the ECU senses increased throttle and engages V-TEC. I'm sure you guys all saw this on www.howstuffworks.com but it doesn't explain the reason that Honda used it was to save gas and environment.

That's what Honda, to the average consumer, is about. ECONOMY.

the first honda car to have vtec was the NSX. it was used to gain more high end hp and low end torque. since then there have been many variants of the vtec system such as dohc vtec, sohc vtec, vtec-e, ivtec and so on. each verison had a different application. DOHC VTEC has been used in the past as the performace verison of vtec, while IVTEC application is similar to continous variable valve timing system of other car companies which allows the car both gains fuel efficiency and power. sooo... Honda didnt exactly used the vtec system to simply save gas and the environment, there are other applications of vtec.

before i close this old *** thread.

the purpose of standard vtec is not JUST fuel economy. it's a balance of fuel economy and performance.

vtec offers the fuel economy of a low rev, conservative cam profile, with the better power delivery of a more aggressive top end cam profile.

some instances, like the EX are not as aggressive as say, the S2000 or NSX.
