Still not as bad as the California fruit market guy who plowed down 23 people last year...the guy confused the gas and the brake, and it turned into Grand Theft Auto-Geriatric Edition.

I bet old people that do stuff like that just get new pills as a consequence. They'll probably blame it on some drug they forgot to take or something.

Thats exactly why they should have to get re-tested when they hit a certain age.

I agree with the re-test. But as far as having a age limit, thats gay. If I was old, I would still want to drive myself. I hate being dependent on others.

Two years ago we had similar crashes about 2 weeks apart in ND. The first one in Fargo a 80+ man went the wrong way down I-94 killing two college girls on there way home for Thanksgiving. About 2 weeks later a man w/ alzheimers went the wrong way down I-29 by Grand Forks, a car swerved to get out of his way and ended up getting T-boned by a 18 wheeler, the guy driving the car survived but his wife and 2 kids were killed.

After this the politicians tried to get a retesting law passed but the AARP and other groups blocked it pretty quick. With the baby boomers getting older the AARP will soon be the largest lobbying group in the US. Old people are going to be getting whatever they want.

I wasn't talking about an age limit.. I was just saying that when people reach a certain age, they should have to take the test every couple years or so..

That's ****ing pathetic, after 65, a re-test should be MANDATORY. Not only that, but a health test in combination with a road test should coincide with eachother. A vision, hearing, and mental capacity test should follow. It may be "extreme" but so is an old man/woman killing someone

I think everybody is forgetting that driving is a privlidge, not a right. The DMV can take your license away any time that they seem fit.

I think testing old people every year is a great idea, for all of the reasons that you guys have listed.

But hey, since they're not "hotheaded" "street-racers" with illegally "hooked up" rides, society and cops won't punish them/give them tickets. Because awww.... they're such cute and nice old people.

There's a way to stop that from happening...get the younger people motivated to vote and to care about what goes on around them. When 50% (sometimes) of the country shows up to elect a President, that's just ****-poor IMO. I know around here anyway, old people control local voting, like municipal budgets and school boards and stuff like that. Why? They read the paper every day and they stay up on stuff. How odd is it that the people whose grandkids are in public school (not the parents) are deciding the budget, and the curriculum in some cases? It might be boring, sure, but read your local paper and see what the hell is going on in town....maybe you'll get peeved to the point that you do something.

Retesting these old people seems like the best way to go. Why is it they always hog up the left lane in a Buick or Oldsmobile?

my great grandmother is 80+ and there is no way we would ever let her drive, she is still kicking it, but that doesn't mean she can operate a car. The comment about if you were old you would still want to drive, i say tuff, i don't care what you want to do, you are jeporadizing other people and that is just not worth it. A 1 year old is dead because some old guy still wanted to drive, and that is just sick.

Too bad it would take a mircale for the 18-25 age group to out vote the senior citzens of this country, it would be a whole another ball game if that happened.

yea, all of the lawmakers are too afraid to suggest laws like that because there are sooo many old people voters, they are one of the biggest voting groups in America...
