Man, every forum I browse, it's the same story - people just can't spell. It's not a matter of the occasional typo, it's people who really don't know how to spell simple words. It's the internet equivalent of fingernails on a blackboard:
there/their/they're (and people even misspell these three)
guages...it's GAUGES people!
knoe/noe...it's spelled KNOW. SHEESH.
wuldnt - that's a cute one
wate/waite - it's either WAIT or WEIGHT...come on
trippel or tripel - spell it TRIPLE and you look less foolish
Everyone has the odd slip, and it's not like this site has a spellchecker or anything. And of course many people use internet thug street slang on here too. But sometimes you see a misspelled word and you can just imagine the poster sitting there staring really hard at the screen, straining to determine if "guages" is the right way to spell it. This doesn't get better with age, and often the educational system does nothing to correct it. Example? A high-ranking employee at my work (ie a VP) writes COMPANY-WIDE memos with such horrible grammar and spelling that another employee has to proofread them before they are emailed out. Just think - you would look pretty silly pronouncing words totally wrong, especially if English was your native tongue. How different would it be if you were spelling a BASIC word wrong, especially if English was your native tongue?
Just venting.

TeLLy,
You voiced once of my greatest pet-peeves. I know exactly how you feel about the VP at your work. Our Department Manager doesn't know the concepts of "punctuation" and using CAPITAL letters start a sentence.
What often bugs me is the fact English is my second language and yet many people who've spoken it all their lives don't know how to spell the simplest of words. Don't get me wrong, there's a list of words that for the life of me I can't seem to spell correctly. But basic words, such as "gauge", "their/they're/there". ugh.

HOoooOOlly ****, ppl venting in here.
I'm usually using Google for Big words or when I get a brain fart.
just type DEF: and the word it should give you a DEFFINITION of the word and then copy and paste the ****er in the page. Taakes about 10 second's
I'm always typing at night around 3 am to 6 am so it's not the tweekest time to type but it's when I'm on the net reading stuff.
Whatever I wanted to vent a bit to .............................................???

meh... I surmise that people either speak English as their second or third language, and such. I do find it much easier to read peoples' posts when on the forums if they at least make a small effort to spell correctly, and proofread what they're saying so that it makes sense... but still, even those who don't spell correctly like it's English class, I still find it okay for them -- who knows, I'm not in their position -- maybe they have some problem limiting themselves from spelling (as I said, English as a second language and such), but yeah... as long as I can get the sense of what they're saying, I don't mind... and if I don't understand it whatsoever, I'll just move on and not read that post... lol
