So I decided to take the civic for a spin...
It's been a few weeks since I drove the Honda, since I pretty much donated it to my family, but I got a chance to steal it away today. Wow...I reeeeaaally missed that smooth buttery shifter. That's one thing I miss about Honda is that shifter. You really don't know what you have until you only get it on rare occasions. The Mazda shifter is notably notchier especially from 1 to 2. Those of you that have test driven know what I'm talking about. With the civic you don't even feel the syncros....smooth like butta....
Sorry but thought I'd just post this, since it was on my mind...wish I could get my Mazda shifter this smooth....oh well my mom will be driving my little blue bastard again tomorrow...

Honestly.. I hate the civic shifter its a cheap cable linkage (however it is still better then some other cars). My favorite cable linkage shifter has been the SI/SiR, RSX, and a Celica GT-S. But nothing beats a good rod shifter.

the civic shifter is the same as the RSX's. so i dont see ur beef with it.
its long and ugly, but smooth like butter compare to lots of other cars.
I prefer cable over rod linkage, too much vibration.. lol.
that is if I'm not buying a sports car... if I'm buying a sports car, I would want to feel it more. *shrug*

My 1st to 2nd grinds a bit when I try to shift quickly. I have to shift gently to make it go smooth. Honda wont fix it which is a bummer. If I ever got a chance to get rid of my '02 Si Coupe I would in a heartbeat. Move on to something more refined.

See that's the thing with the Mazda shifter is that it's a direct rod shift linkage setup. So when you accelerate hard, you can see the synchros pull the damn linkage back. You can feel all the vibration, and like I said it's pretty notchy from first to second. But hey...all in all still love the car...just wish I could the shifter could be a little less beefy and more buttery smooth like my civic...
Zzyzx...dude wasn't march like a month ago? You mean May 8th? That looks like a good day I will most likely be able to make it...think I can get away with the first time free pass thing even though I auto crossed my civic in Phoenix a couple times?

for the money that you spend on a civic, the shifting is very smooth. its not supposed to be "sporty", its meant for daily driving. i don't consider the civic a sports car either.
the rsx costs more money that the civic, and thats one of the reasons why. but the civic compared to other similarly priced cars is very smooth shifting. i love it
