96 ex 5 speed trans question

Hello,

I'm a new member/new civic owner. I just bought a 96 d16y8 1.6L vtec. It has a 5 speed and has been lowered, a lot from what I can tell. To get to my point, driving through all the gears is great. Very smooth with no grinding or slipping. I notice that when it's in gear, I can move the shifter quit a bit from side to side. Id say maybe 2 inches. I also noticed this morning that, with the car off, I can put it into any gear without engaging the clutch. My thoughts are that I need a new transmission. Can anyone shed some light on my issues?

Thanks.

Might need new bushings in the shifter linkage.

although moving the shifter side-to-side is that it's supposed to move to the sides, unless it's too soft.

You need to get under the car and see for yourself exactly which parts have excessive play and then refer to a catalog to see what parts you may need.

(I picked a random car for the pic. You need to start at the beginning of the site and choose your actual car.)
