K&N Typhoon or K&N FIPK

What is the difference (performancewise) between the Typhoon and the FIPK and would anybody recommend either one. It seems like everyone is pretty true to AEM which is still within my choices SRI probably, but anybody use either of these K&Ns?

Ya I would like to know too.

I thought the concesus was that the K&N FIPK was better than any of the other air intakes for our cars.
4 to 5 + hp, plus it fits well in our cars ??

have not heard anything about the Typhoon though...

the typhoon is just like the other CAIs out there... aluminum pipping... filter outta the engine bay..

the difference of the typhoon would probably be the plastic bag or whatever the heck it is covering the filter to prevent hydrolock... supposely the bag doesn't restrict airflow too. *shrug* the typhoon is also CARB exempt.

as for the FIPK, IMO, is a product with more design to it... its carb exempt, isn't made out of aluminum pipping... its not really meant for show, it has a heatshield for the filter that seems to work good...

both are more expensive than they should be... but oh well.

personally I'll either go with ebay intakes... buy a AEM replica CAI (dont want injen cuz hydrolock possibility is even more real) and slap on a better filter... or buy a SRI (InJen replica) and slap on a better filter, and fabricate a FIPK-like heatsheild...

or just stick with stock and save money (the smart choice, IMO)

actually unless your bumper is submerged in water.. you won't get hydrolock with the injen cai. the filter area in the bumper is fully enclosed by the bumper... so unless you have it suck up water like a straw in a glass of coke ...... nothings going to happen.

And with the InJen CAI you can put on the AEM bypass valve on.
I've been looking into the K&N Typhoon, AEM CAI and InJen RD CAI, and from what people around here say InJen is the best bang for the buck.

Yes I have the FIPK and from the three that I have tried, this one is the best. Here is the info on where I got it etc. This vendor seems to have the best price and best delivery times for K&N products.

FIPK = Fuel Injection Performance Kit It's basically a SRI with a heat shield.

Yes it fits automatic 1.7L engine.

I got it at PERFORMANCE CENTER . COM

Price was $203.38 with shipping included. They only come in black. It also comes with the filter cleaner and oil kit. Remember you are getting a SRI, with heat shield, all genuine K&N stuff plus the cleaning and oiling kit at this price.

If you're interested call Robert at Performance Center. Service and shipping was good and prompt.

Click on my members rides page for a pic of the FIPK installed on my car.

woops. thats BARTKAT

and 203. not 230. ho ho. memory is getting bad as I hit 43...

I really like the FIPK's design with the heatshield.. but boy 203 bucks shipped is still a lot for an intake... but then again year ago, I got the InJen SRI for 170 shipped... (ouch) shoulda waited.. would pay extra 30 bucks for the FIPK...

You got the numbers right. Just not in order. LOL

The first AEM SRI I bought came in at $250 so I told them to send it back. I think I ended up paying $210 or so for that one. I also tried an OBX off Ebay but it was pretty much crap. Too many of those silly putty rubber adapters and not a good way to mount the bracket. I scrapped that one.

The bestest thing about the K&N is it fits like it was made specifically for the car, because it was. A fine engineering job worth the wait.

the Robert guy at Performance Center says he can get the best price on any K&N products. If you look at their page, they seem to specialize in K&N.

Ordered my FIPK yesterday from Performance center .com and they told me Robert doesn't work there anymore but still offered FIPK to me for $200 I had to argue about the shipping. One guy cut the price to $195 and said he would only charge me 5 bucks for shipping thus saving me a whole $3 bucks nice right. Anyway so I called back later and got this other guy who said he woyuld cut the price to 180 and charge me $20 bucks for shipping which came up to the same $200. These guy's are full of crap, but I really wnated an FIPK and dispite their farting around Perf. Center still had the best price by far $200 I just hope I get what I paid for. My 2 cents.

Hey Bartkat, I was just wondering how many mounting spots are for the K&N FIPK? From the pictues I have found, it seems like 1 mounting. Is this correct? Also, after driving around, have you felt the temp of the filter? Thanks

There are two brackets for the heat shield, both spots where the original intake was fastened. There are vibration resistant nuts where the brakets fasten to the heat shield box. And yes if you put your hand outside the box and then inside, you can feel a considerable difference in temp. I haven't used a thermometer, but it is definitely cooler where the filter is.
