Rep Power: 291 Got the K&N Drop-In Filter today
Here's the mandatory pics, followed by commentary:
First pic shows the box, duh. Second shows the plastic wrap and freshly oiled, new filter. Third, fourth and fifth shows it from different angles. The material surrounding the filter and making the loop is rubber and VERY flexible and pliable, so be gentle handling it so that you don't damage it.
I got mine at Martel Bros. for $36.07. Click here and search for part# 33-2192 and it'll show up. For some reason, if you do the normal search, it only shows the FIPK, oil filter, and typhoon kits. I'm not sure what the difference in the two typhoons kits are, so email them if you're interested.
Fuel Injection Performance Kit part#57-3513 $232.36
K&N Oil Filter #HP-1010 $9.97
Typhoon Intake Kit #69-1007TR Man. Trans., Mftd in 2001 $299
Typhoon Intake Kit #69-1007TS Man. Trans., Mftd in 2001 $299
Anyways, I went to the car to put in the drop-in filter and got a surprise. The strut bar I got off of eBay blocks the air filter box! ARGH!! Heh, another good reason to get a Neuspeed. So I had to remove one side of the bar and then I had access. I swapped it out, put away the still-good cloth Honda filter, remounted the strut bar, and went for a test drive. You can definately tell it's getting more air. It felt smoother, with better response. If you're looking for a major horsepower upgrade or a howling intake noise, get a short ram or CAI. And no, it's not noticeable louder at all. It sounds like stock. I had just put in the Denso Iridium spark plugs less than a week ago, so I have noticed the motor is running stronger than before. But like I said, it's not a major difference.
Just to sum it all up, it's a nice, cheap upgrade. But I'd recommend getting the Denso's too.

Rep Power: 0 thats good to know! I was going to get the FIPK originally but decided I didn't want to spend that much money on that stuff. So I was going to get the drop-in filter and the denso spark plugs just like you did, I hear it gives a small but noticeable difference and I could do it total for under $100. Glad it worked out well!

Rep Power: 344 hey man i just ordered mine too.. from the same place.
I should be getting it today.
I thought about the FIPK.. but thats too much money, and I can't justify it...
I like stock anyway, good low end for my everyday driving.

Rep Power: 0 I'm actually ordering mine from 4filters.com - They have a $5 flat shipping charge, the other place charges sales tax in texas so it was going to be a lot more for me. Anyways, just fyi.

Rep Power: 0 thanks for filling us in..
I;m still trying to find a filter in Toronto..
My Tenzo bar also blocks the air box
so i;m gonna have to move it b4 installation..
anywayz gr8 review..
IMO if it runs cleaner and u can feel the diff...then its worth while

Rep Power: 0 I also just got the K&N drop-in filter (part #33-2192) and can confirm everything that Bellz has said. It does pull a bit smoother throughout the powerband, no lost torque, no added noise!

Rep Power: 0 I mentioned it on another thread, but Honda Tuning just tested 8 different intakes for the RSX-S.. including K&N drop in filter. It lost 0.1HP... nothing really. Looking at the dyno, it was virtually identical, except it looks **SLIGHTLY** higher in lower-end and **SLIGHTLY** lower in high-end of the RPM... of course, this could be magazine's printing mis-alignment, that's how thin of a gain it was.
I really like your report Very well explained and photographs to boot!

Sadly though, the site has fallen from the once uber-cool site it was to nothing but a collection of articles with no new content. I had quit the site earlier this year, due to a disagreement about content and the way they ran their contests. Long story, so I won't bore you with it. Hehe. If you do look at the site, you won't see my stuff. I took it with me when I left.

Rep Power: 372 Its in the car now....and I dont notice any differnce...oh well. I am trying to convince my dad to get one for his 02 lx coupe....He doesnt realize how easy it is to clean and oil the filter and how much cheaper it is than buying a filter every 15 thousand miles....I'll just buy it for him instead.....

Rep Power: 0 Unfortunately, for performance sake, the K&N drop-in is a waste of money but for cleaning/longevity it suits its purpose well. However, throw an AEM CAI on your ride and according to HondaTuning you can gain 20 peak HP. That seems incredible but maybe so. They said that the Jackson Racing air filter had the best flow so I think I'm going to ditch the K&N that comes with the CAI and slap a Racing Sport Akimoto (a.k.a. Jackson Racing) filter on the end for the ultimate combo!

Rep Power: 0 Somebody on another thread said Pep Boys carried it for $38. I just called them and that part number isn't even in their computer.
Does anybody know if any other stores carry it?

I thought the people here with AEM CAI said they didn't gain anything from it, or lost some(?). A +20hp gain would definately be noticible, especially on our cars, I would assume.

Rep Power: 0 It comes already oiled. Should be good for 15,000 or so miles before you need to clean and re-oil.. Depending on driving conditions, of course. It's oiled and sealed in plastic.
