Intake sounds

Do the intakes for 2002 Civics make a loud noise?
I want to get my car a little quicker but don't want to make a lot of noise.

They aren't loud, but most if not all aftermarket intake systems will
make noise....it is a good noise though, you'll like it !!

It's not that loud, and the only time you really notice it is when you get into the throttle.

Thanks for the info.
I've heard them on other cars but I haven't heard them on ours yet.
Thanks again.

That intake noise is like an addiction. The more you hear it the more you want to hear it. Intakes definitely lower the gas mileage, because you're always getting on the throttle, just to hear your Civic purr. And, I love the hisss when you turn off the ignition. Get one.

My mpg actually increased about 2 mpg after a few weeks of riding it hard to listen to the intake.

I drive my car hard already so I am not too worried about buying an intake and losing gas mileage. hehe.

"Could you describe the ruckus, sir?" (do you know where this quote is from?)

It's kind of hard for me to tell what an intake sounds like, other than "awesome". I'm guessing it's mostly a hissing sounds? High-pitched or what? Thanks to anyone who can describe it for me.

"Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?"

Is it me, or do people talk more about the sound of intakes than the performance? I'm sure intakes sound great but do they help with the acceleration at all?

astr033 - I've got the Injen SRI, before I put it on, there was a flat spot or a little hesistation around 3,000 RPM's, after installing the intake, it disappeared. I think it helps the acceleration. Also, how is the weather there near Boston ? I've got a business trip to Stow, Mass on Monday for three days.

Ditto BAK. You will feel the difference. Maybe 2 or 3 HP. Worth it.
