CAI in winter time.....
For areas where there's a lot of snow, such as good 'ol edmonton, would it be a bad idea to get a cai? i could see there being a problem with snow blocking the air filter.

if u have snow blocking that part of ur car i think u might have bigger problems then just not being able to start the car. u should perhaps dig ur car outa the 10ft of snow first
. but like most ppl will tell u, u could prolly get it just be careful when ur driving, same as puddles.

im not exaclty sure how cai filters mount inside the front bumpers, but my guess is there is going to be air available from somwhere, somehow...through the front lower grille, or within the engine bay/wheel well. you could always get one of those in-line AEM thingys (forgot what theyre called, i think theyre around $40) that will take care of filter blockages.

I've heard rumors of kids wit CAI getting water in there, and it explodes on them or something...Rumors i guess..Otherwise as long as you aren't starting it when your covered in snow you should be fine.
Hey, i have an aem cold air intake on my civic.......this is my second winter with it on........and i never have or had any kinda problems. I dont even have the by-pass valve either. I live in Montreal and it snow a sh_t load over here!

This will be the third winter that my Injen RD will be on the car, and I have had no problems since install. Never had to remove the extension or anything. Granted it's not as snowy here as in Edmonton, but like mentioned above, if your intake filter is coming in contact with enough snow to clog/block it, you've got worse problems to worry about.
I hear the bypass valve kills horse power. And for all you people who don't believe in hydro locking(sucking water or anything up intake) isnt real, i've seen my fair share of blocks with holes blows out the sides from people who decided to floor it in a puddle. All I can say is, if you see alot of snow thats deep or a puddle, coast through and don't hit the gas, you should be ok, water is way worse than snow.
