Question for those with Injen RD automatic CAI
Im thinking about getting this intake, but I need to know where the filter sits. I wanted an AEM for the bypass valve, but since injen doesnt make a bypass, I would like to know just how close to the bottom of the battery tray the filter sits.
I know hydrolock is pretty uncommon, especially in a dry place like texas, but Im a worrying type person, and any info would e greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

The Injen sits where any other car's cold air filter sits. Behind the bumper, and right in front of the wheel well. I am pretty sure about this, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong!! I am kinda drunk right now!!lol
yup, that picture is correct..... and the bypass valve sits at the red coupling connecting the first and second pipes on the top to the left of the engine. i have the RD and the bypass.... it's good to go.

ok, if you are woring about hydrolocking, then dont get this intake, get a short ram intake because like everyone else said, the filter sits behind the bumper. About 3 or 4 months ago I experienced water damage with the intake. I drove through about a foot of water and the sucker sucked in a **** load of water. My engine didnt hydrolock though, but the car died while driving through the water and wouldnt start up, I took it to a auto shop and they sucked a bunch of water out of the throttle body and the cylinders, plus they had to change the oil and tranny fluid about 10x each. After all that, costing $300, I think it was, the car worked fine untill a week later when my tranny messed up. took it into the deal and it needed a new throttle body, it was under warranty though. But that is the only problem I have had. like I said, if it is a big concern to you, dont get it. Get a short ram intake.
Yes streetglower; driving your car with the Injen CAI in a foot of water will give you a bad day. Sorry about your ride.
To hydrolock, the filter must be submerged in water. I live in ATX right now and I have this CAI. I dont have the AEM bypass, but I think I will get it before summer arrives when the rain starts to pour heavily.
phatcyclist, Texas is not all that dry in the summer time. Remember those big rains that happened? When it rains seriously, dont take your car out without a water bypass or else you are asking for trouble. You never know how deep the water really is; and if you hit that underpass or low level grounds, you could be asking for a hydrolock by submerging your filter in water.
Anywayz, I'm in the ATX region so hit me up if you wanna see the CAI personally. I can shine a light and let you see EXACTLY where the filter sits. It's pretty damn low considering that the front bumper of our civics come pretty low stock.

the aem bypass isn't 100% guaranteed that it'll bypass the water though.
fyi.
and u lose hp/torque
kinda negelects the gains of getting a CAI... heh. if there's any gains anyway.

i drive through puddles all the time with my r/d cai, just idle through any deep puddles, dont accelerate. the only problem i have with my intake is it makes a knocking noise when the engine is cold when i open the throttle, i think its just crooked placement of the lower extension.
phatcyclist I'm a student at UT...hit me up sometime.
Capyoda also makes a good point of taking away HP. I guess during the wet months of the summer you could always take the second part off of the CAI and make it a short ram.
SkipBarber I have the same sort of problem, but I believe it's the filter itself knocking against something. It only happens when you throttle and then a little knock. I checked all the pipes and whatnot and the pipes were fine. So the only conclusion I have come to is the big filter knocking on the bumper or something when you hit the gas becuase it sucks in air. The space for the filter is kind of tight, but I dont notice the knock unless i'm REALLY trying to hear for it. So it's not a big deal.
As for getting the CAI...it might not give you all that much gains, but there is some partial gain in the high end but it's very faint. Of course the roar it makes under the hood is pretty nice and also dresses up your engine bay pretty nicely. I'd still say the buy was worth it for me.
