Exclamation I hydrolocked my engine and fixed that part. now something eletrical?

As the title says i hydrolocked my stock d15b8 with an intake, i tried starting it like 20 times after it happened cause i was not thinking. After i got it home i took off the intake, took out the plugs and vacuumed out the water, i tried turning it over by the harmonic balancer and it stopped turning and now it only goes back and fourth like an inch both ways. MY starter was messed up and i got a new one, got new plugs put it all back together, now if i try and start it the starter is just spinning around, it doesnt seem like the engine is getting spark or something. Any one know what could be wrong?

If it stops turning when you rotate it, you've bent the valves.

Yea your internals are probably all messed up. You need to take the timing belt cover off and see if your timing is still correct before you crank that engine any more.

as others said, taking the water out is not all...
most likely bent valves and other sutff. for other stuff you need to open the engine to know what.

That depends on what the timing belt did when it hydrolocked. You may have been lucky and everything is okay... you need to check the timing. Also, sucking the water out does not unseal the pistons from the cylinder walls... You might need a new engine

That itself didn't do any damage. When the pistons are moving, there shouldn't be any resistance. They're being restrained by something, which like the others said, requires further internal investigation. I've got my fingers crossed for you though. My friend drove through a tiny puddle and completely destroyed his car

Yeah bent valves :/ Theres a guy on craigslist that is selling the same motor as mine for 175. Ive never swapped an engine. But since its the same how hard is it going to be? What am i going to have to do to do this? And can i keep the tranny mounted on the car and just take the old out and put the new in?

if it's the valves can he just replace the head, and not the full engine block? but 175 sounds good.

Re: I hydrolocked my engine and fixed that part. now something eletrical?

yeah ill see, but I doubt he would, even if I bought the whole thing
I could still just take the head off, but since water got in the engine I should probably just swap it.

Re: I hydrolocked my engine and fixed that part. now something eletrical?

You could just change the head but you need to make sure the pistons which came in contact with the valves are okay... that and it's easier to just change the engine sometimes.. It's WAY easier to pull the tranny out when replacing the engine.. You can't leave just the tranny in unless u leave it jacked up somehow.. just not worht it.

How do i do a compression test if the engine isnt hooked up? Just hook up the starter to a battery?

Re: I hydrolocked my engine and fixed that part. now something eletrical?

Also, Could my engine just not spin anymore by me turning it cause the timing is way off? Cause i think i hooked my spark plug wires up wrong. And i dont know if that can mess the timing up once it trys to start or something.

I don't think mixing up the wires is going to be detrimental once you get everything back together. Your engine won't spin anymore because like I said, the pistons are contacting the valves. It won't go any further because the car went out of time once the water got in the engine. You should really invest in a manual or check for a pdf file for one.

Re: I hydrolocked my engine and fixed that part. now something eletrical?

So i am taking off the belt cause i guess its out of time before i buy this engine since this might only be what it is. Im stuck on taking the crank pulley off. How do you hold the flywheel down so you can loosen it. Or is there another spot you can hold down or something?

I thought you said it bent valves? If the timing is out it probably did bend valves... You may however get lucky!

I believe Amazon sells an official or something VERY close to the Honda style crank pulley removal tool.

Let me rephrase that.
If at all possible, try to get an engine that the seller can tell you what the compression was before he pulled the egnine off. more ease of mind
