I’m planning to k swap my ek civic but I haven’t done a full swap before. I found another d16y7 for under 500 and I was wondering if it’s worth buying it to swap the same engine out for some practice?

k-swapping vs swapping in a D16 are going to be completely different beasts. A straight 1 for 1 swap is going to be exponentially easier than swapping in something that never came in that chassis. Sure, swapping in a D16 will give you pulling and re-installing an engine, but when you get to the k-swap, you're going to run into (potentially) so many more obstacles. Might as well save the money, do the research of what it'll take to k-swap, then just go for the k swap right off the bat. Work slow and deliberately, no need to rush it. Do that and make sure you have everything you need and you'll be fine, so long as you're committed to the swap
