What are you looking to do? How much power are you looking to make?

Re: b20b clutch

^^ buy a clutch dependent on your torque goals. Don't up and buy a stage 3 clutch to buy a stage 3 clutch.

That said, Exedy and ACT are very reputable companies. The Exedy organic Stage 1 clutch is good to 187ft-lbs, and the stage 2 is good to 221ft-lbs. Get a clutch that will slightly exceed (by 10-20% torque) your torque goals/expectations. If you throw caution to the wind and get a stage 4 clutch because "it's go fast parts," you'll just have a harsher drive, a disproportionally strong left leg, and wasted a hundred bucks or so for no reason.

edit: couldn't find any specs on the OEM replacement clutch, but I'd imagine it'd be good to 150-170 ft-lbs or so. The highest OEM torque that clutch is compatible with is 140ft-lbs, and add a bit for an error of margin (I'd venture a guess of 10-20%).

I second this. If you're doing nothing but bolt ons, you don't need anything more than OEM replacement.

Re: b20b clutch

my research told me basically all B series use the same clutch, kinda like how all D series use the same clutch

Re: b20b clutch

i’m gonna be adding vtec as well and i’ve always been used to the feel an aftermarket clutch, you guys think i’d see a decrease in performance w going stage 1

Re: b20b clutch

doesn't increase nor decrease. It accompanies torque transfer from the crankshaft to the transmission. I'm not saying not to get a stage 1, but it's unnecessary if you're not going to be upgrading to accommodate more torque output that will exceed the specs of the OEM clutch. If anything, bolt-on mods will decrease low end torque/hp and give you gains in the higher RPM band.

Re: b20b clutch

not performance but i meant functionality like would going w a stage 1 mess w the functionality and how smooth the gears can go thru, just wanting to know if there are any cons to upgrading it

Re: b20b clutch

stage 1 is already very heavy to step in clutch pedal. (I have one)
unless forced induction, you are just wasting money and getting a heavy pedal. (as long as it is a B20 clutch and it fits your transmission)

Re: b20b clutch

I had a stage 1 in my EM2, but that was because I was throwing boost at it (I went from 114 ft-lbs to about 150 ft-lbs). I'll tell you, that clutch was stiff as hell because of the pressure plate
