1999 Civic SI Clutch Noise
1999 Civic SI Clutch Noise
My Civic has had a good bit of work done to it: Intake, Exhaust, Jackson Racing Supercharger, AEM Fuel Rail, Fuel Pump Upgrade, Stage 5 Clutch (all new bearings) lightened steel fly wheel, and the list goes on. My problem is when you are releasing the clutch you hear a squealing sound. The sound is a little louder and longer if you ride the clutch, which you have to do to build boost for the supercharger, otherwise the supercharger sucks all the vacuum off the motor. I think it is the release bearing but the clutch and release bearing, as well as the other components of the clutch system have less than 2000 miles on them. So I'm not sure what the problem is. Anyone have any suggestions?????
Re: 1999 Civic SI Clutch Noise
It only squeaks when you let the clutch out. As the clutch engages it squeaks, but only for a second. It squeaks when the clutch petal is all the way at the top. It doesn't grind or anything like that, just squeaks or squeals. Any more ideas??
Re: 1999 Civic SI Clutch Noise
It could be the cable, I'll try lubing it and see if that helps. The noise seems to come from the clutch though. Hopefully it is the cable! Thanks for the help. If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to let me know, I'd hate to have the tranny pulled and the release bearing not be the cause!
Re: 1999 Civic SI Clutch Noise
pop the hood, locate the header. To the left of that there is a black rubber boot/cover, hiding the clutch master cylinder.
Remove the two bolts securing it in place and remove the cover afterwards. Be sure not to bend anything while removing it. Once it's taken apart you can take out the ball joint, clean it off, clean the little arm it sits in.
Mine had a bunch of black grease/gunk and I just cleaned it, then lubed it with some white lithium grease(blue and white spray can at autozone) and the squeak has been gone for over 2 weeks now. Until I cleaned it I had the squeaking problem all the time, especially when it was cold outside.
It takes a bit of effort to get the boot back over the ball joint/master cylinder, but once that boot is on slip the main boot back over and secure it.
And that should fix your problem. Check the pedals if you have squeaking underneath.
