!!Amplifier help!!
!!Amplifier help!!
Just invested in a nice new amplifier and am wondering if there is anywhere in particular i can install it in my car. I have the 2dr coupe, i don't want it just sitting in the trunk bouncing around. Any input is highly appreciated
Re: !!Amplifier help!!
Most people mount them in the trunk on the back seat. If the amp is small you can mount it under the front seats but that is usually more difficult. You could mount it on the floor of the trunk but then you will loose cargo space.
Here is how mine is mounted:

Re: !!Amplifier help!!
I either mounted mine to the back of the seat as mentioned above, or mount them to the actual speaker box.. you can really put it wherever you want, just depends what you like..
Re: !!Amplifier help!!
I just looked and there isn't really a mounting area that i could screw in board, and mounting the amp directly to the seat wouldn't work well either as the chair support in back is not smooth but rather jagged and groovy.
Re: !!Amplifier help!!
Yea that's how the back of my seat is. You have to use self tapping sheet metal screws and secure it on the brace where you can. It's on there really well, its not going anywhere. It's also sits flat as it takes up enough room to go over the ridges.

GolNat, nice amp, I have a 611a powering a pair of Kappa Perfect subs.
Anyways, I really don't recommend mounting amps to the back of seats or enclosures. For one, the back of the seat usually ends with the amp being mounted at an inverted angle, this tends to drastically reduce the effectiveness of their cooling, if pushed hard, over heating can become quite an issue. Heat rises, so the heat will travel up the board and actually try escaping out the bottom of the amp. This makes the heat sinks of many amps useless.
As for mounting on an enclosure, if mounted on the back, similar applies. However, there are two more reasons not to as well. For one, vibration, unless the enclosure is braced, the vibrations could damage the circuitry of the amp and two, it's easier for someone to steal both the sub(s) and amp at the same time. More can be read about this in the "amplifiers" section of BCAE1. It's section 23.
Me, when I mounted my amp, I built a makeshift amp rack and tucked it in the corner of my trunk. It's a little crude, but it worked. For reference, I'll leave a few photos. The car was a 94' Chevy Corsica, not the largest trunk to work with, but I'm sure you guys are very familiar with small trunks.
