My dad did that on an older Lexus. Fortunately, in Florida we don't need emissions or vehicle tests. I got a good laugh while writing that response remembering my dad and some of the "shortcuts" he would take in repairs.

My brother is the type to try and make things perfect but, then most of his projects take three time longer and much more expensiver than anticipated. However, he is damn thorough.

I'm somewhere in between my father and brother and have (sometimes painfully) learned over the years that the cheapest route is not always the best route. However, at the same time I try to avoid over-kill and leave well enough alone.
