Starter keeps going bad
Starter keeps going bad
So i got my starter replaced for the second time and now the second one seems to be going bad now. The shop said if the second one goes bad it might be a bad flywheel. Anybody have any ideas on what else it might be? Some times when i start the car it takes a couple of turns to crank
Re: Starter keeps going bad
It could be many things, It might not even be starter related...
for example if you're not getting enough fuel, ignition voltage to plugs, or, the ignition timing is off, those could lead to starting issues.
If your starter is cranking it should be fine.
Try turning the ignition to the point where the dash lights turn on, then off again. Do that three times before starting. If it starts right away after that you have a fuel pressure issue, which is common with older cars while starting.

Re: Starter keeps going bad
Parts store remanufactured starter rebuilt in a 3rd world nation with no quality control? The failure rate of factory parts is very low. The failure rate of most parts store reman electrical parts (starter/alternators) is quite high. I remember reading about 10-12 years ago that the duralast reman GM alternators had a 70-80 failure rate within 2 years. I hope that the figures were incorrect, but I won't put them in my cars. I have seen too many that failed prematurely to trust them
