Strange clicking from shifter column when pressing brake in park

99 civic ex AT 112,000 miles

Just noticed last night that my brake pedal creaks when I depress it which is probably nothing, just needs some grease, but now today when the vehicle is running and in park and I tap the brake, I can hear and feel a clicking coming from under the shifter. It doesn't make the click in any gear but park. The click occurs when the brake pedal is barely tapped, I don't even have to press it all the way. Not sure if this a brake or transmission problem. I've never had problems with the transmission before and just had the fluid drained and refilled 5 times at Honda at 110,000 miles and the brakes have 12,000 miles on them.

What could be causing the click?

The shift interlock solenoid, perfectly normal.

Thanks for your quick response Craig, but how come I've never heard this click before, and now suddenly it's apparent?

Maybe cold weather has effected sound, only occurs when in P.

Actually we did just get rain here for the first time in over 50 days. And it has been cold. So cold and humid, I could see how that could create a squeaking brake pedal and the clicking.

My guess: You heard one new noise (creak), so you are over-analyzing everything you hear now. The shift lock solenoid has always been there.
I bet you never sat and pumped the brake pedal like this until now?

White lithium grease in a spray can works well for pedal and spring noises, if that's what it is.
