Clutch Failing?
Clutch Failing?
I think the clutch is going on my '98 Civic. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get it into reverse and 1st gear. It takes a lot of grinding before it slips into gear.
Could this be anything other than the clutch failing?
How much should I expect to spend on a new clutch?
Is there anything else that could solve this?

Re: Clutch Failing?
That sounds more like your synchros (transmission) are bad. If it were slipping or all gears were hard to get into, then I would say it was your clutch. Try rev matching when downshifting so your synchros dont have to do as much work.
Re: Clutch Failing?
Also before shifting into reverse try shifting into 2nd first then reverse. My 88 accord would grind going into reverse if I first didn't shift into 1st gear (synchro was going bad). Since your 1st is grinding 2nd might work better.
Re: Clutch Failing?
You could also flush your tranny. Most people seem to go with Honda manual transmission fluid but I've only heard good things about redline mtl from people that didn't go Honda. It probably won't fix the problems but it might make them a little less noticeable.
