Power Steering Pump
Power Steering Pump
I have a 99 Civic. Is it safe to drive with the pump taken out? It's got a lifetime warranty at O'Reilly's, but they want me to take the old one in and give it to them before they even place an order for the new one. So can I just disconnect the hoses and let it be? Or will that eventually cause the steering to lock up?

Re: Power Steering Pump
You can remove the pump and belt.
You won't have power steering. You will have manual steering.
You won't hurt the rack driving it for a day, but cap the hoses real good so no dirt can get in them. Dirt is bad.
Wrong fluid is bad for the pumps and racks. OReillys did carry some PS fluid that said it was just for Honda and Acura, in quart bottles.
