Exclamation Where to start?

auto zone just hooked up my civic and gave me a p1259 code which is vtec system malfunction giving 1: vtec open or short circuit condition 2: vtec solenoid valve fault 3: vtec pressure switch fault 4: blocked oil passage. I'm new to the civic world more less vtecs are these easy fixes? I have also been having overheating problems since I bought the car and replaced ect sensor, thermostat, checked for bubbles and fan switch! could this code also be the cause of my overheating?

Re: Where to start?

there is a pressure sensor on the bottom and solenoid button on the top you can take apart, but the only screen filter is for the whole assembly. i doubt you would get it any cleaner by taking all the pieces apart but i could be wrong. you may need to just replace it and move on. dont forget to oil up the new one before installing.

Re: Where to start?

i drove for a few weeks, its just annoying because the car doesnt drive or shift properly. i had a code reader in the car and would keep turning the engine light off when it came on. if you stay under 2800rpm (i know its hard for a civic) the light should stay off.

Re: Where to start?

so no harm can really be done? this morning I took off for work and it was on like usual but then I went to oriellys for work and it was off and hasn't been on since. would the screen cleaning just kicked the light off after a couple days? or is there still another issue to tackle?

Re: Where to start?

You didn't manually clear the code, so:
"It takes 3 consecutive trip cycles in which the diagnostic runs and passes for the computer to turn the check engine light off."

Sounds like your problem is intermittent, or hasn't acted up in a while. Yet.
Time will tell.
