A/C controls working backword, ????

Hi all, I recently bought a 96 Civic EX Coupe. I am have a very weird problem
with the A/C controls. I am talking about the vent selector push buttons.
When the full center button is pushed the full defrost is actually on. If you look at the selector from left to right the first button is full face, combo face feet, full feet, combo defrost, full defrost,

The buttons actually are working in reverse order, full defrost is actually full face and vise versa.

Can anyone explain this to me or tell me what to check to reverse this and make it respond to the actual setting.

My 96 LX is doing the same thing. Have you figured out the issue? Also my heat won't blow hot at all

You live in the Northern hemisphere and you car was originally sold only in the Southern hemisphere. Toilet water flows in the opposite direction in each hemisphere. Sorry, that's all I got for ya...Lol.
