Everytime I turn on the Fan for air the a/c comes on automaticaly so I have to turn it off manually, and if I have it coming out of the defrost then you can't turn it off, it stays on, no matter what. And yes you can turn it to heat, but you can still feel the difference it's not as hot.

Is there any way to make it so I can have my setting anyway i'd like and have full control? Maybe installing/cutting the bypass wire or something?

yea i hate that too...but the reason that is there is because the AC acts as a Dehumidifier as well to help your windows not fog up, so just turn your **** all the way to red and wear a heavy jacket

Someone on here did a DIY on an AC override. A seperate button controlls it now (I belive...I wasn't too interested so I didn't read much into it)

The dealership showed me how to do this a couple of days a go.

1) Have the car turned off.

2) Turn the "air condition position" **** to the left all the way (counter-clock-wise).

3) Hold the "air-recirculation button" and the "A/C" button "DOWN". (don't touch the "defrost" button)

4) Start the car with the "BUTTONS" held down, and wait for 7 seconds.

5) All done. You can turn the "A/C" off and on now.

P.S. To turn the original feature back on, repeat all steps, but for "STEP 2", turn the **** all the way to the "right" (clock-wise).

Hope this helps.

HELL YEAHH!!!!!!

Hey thanks for that little DIY bro, I have been gettin so annoyed at the fact that I couldn't turn off the damn AC when I had the defrost on, it takes away from the takeoff power and we civic owners need all that we can get when it comes to that. Anyway, just wanted to send muh appreciation for that, even though it didn't work the first 5 or so times I tried to do it. On the last time I tried it I turned the car to ON so that the radio would work, I followed the steps, started her up, and then it happened!! I think that you will know if it works or not if you hold down those buttons and after the 7 seconds the recirculation indiactor will begin to blink while you hold it down.

Oh mY god!~

Yeah... I just read this post!!

I have not yet tried it on my car... but I am going to go out and try it!!

Shiet!!

All my work and wiring... hah!! I am feeling kinda pissed... oh well.

If it works I will just detach everything and return it to stock appearance (I had a toggle switch that did manually enabled or disabled the A/C)

Just more proof that we need to get all this info to the pages sooner

I would have been mad had I had to pay to reset my SRS light... I am glad that was submitted as well.

Thanks anyway for the info... cool trick if it works.
later all!

Well, I just did it... yeah... it works.

I dunno, I will keep my switch in because;
1. I did all that damn work in the first place.
2. The A/C light still comes on as default when you first select it; minor inconvenience now since you can turn it off but with my switch it is OFF always (can't be accidentaly put on).

With that said, had I known about this mod I definitely would have opted to do it rather than my lengthy re-wiring

Thanks again. Nice DIY.

Yep. It works. (Thanks Toasty) I'd rather it disabled AC completely and let ME control it completely on defrost...but it's an improvement. Any other "hacks" people know of? I'm beginning to love the computerization of auto systems!

Okay when you turn on the defrost and the A/C light comes on can you turn off the A/C while still in defrost mode and have the light go off? I did all the steps and the recirculate button flashes but I still can't turn off the A/C when defrost is on.

I am having the same problem. I followed all of the steps and the recirc light even blinks after a couple of seconds, but I still can't shut off the A/C when I have the defogger on. Is there something I did wrong?

it must be something that you guys are doing wrong. It took me one try and it was all done. Mine works fine. Try doing it over and over until it works. Make sure you follow all of the steps in the DIY.

Yes it worked, thank you so much!!! . Here in Canada it's very cold, just thinking of A/C puts chills down my back.

Any other tricks for the 2k1 Civic?

OVERRIDING A/C
--------------

1) Have the car turned off.

2) Turn vent **** to off (All the way to the
left, counter clock wise).

3) Turn temperature **** to full blue (All the
way to the left, counter clock-wise).

5) Start car and keep both air recirculation button
and A/C button depressed for 7 seconds.

6) Wait for air recirculation button to stop
flashing.

* To turn the original feature back on, repeat all
steps, but for "STEP 2", turn the **** (All the
way to the right, clock-wise).

That is a super great DIY...maybe i can help verbal/fstrat...when you do the steps up to the point of waiting seven seconds...the circulate light should turn on and off about 3 times and then the a/c light will blink...this is the time you should let go...by then i think it will work.....it should...

Yeah, no one said to wait until the lights stop flashing. I was letting go after the recirc light started to flash.

This is an EXCELLENT trick! I like having the control of my A/C.

Just remember folks...ya gotta turn your A/C on for approximately 15 minutes each month so the system doesn't seize up.

finally worked on mine, but I had to turn all 3 ***** to the left. Work the first time that ways, without the vent position **** to the left, I had tried unsuccessfully a lot of times.... maybe I'm just dum

anyway thanks

You guys.....
The a/c was made to come on when you turn the defrost on!!
The a/c takes away the foggyness WAY faster than just the regular defrost!! The a/c is supposed to come on! If you don't want it cold when its on, just turn the heat up!
But....I guess we all have different needs...!!
