Idle Issues
Idle Issues
Okay so a few weeks ago my 97 civic ex started dying when at an idle. When first started, the idle was fine until I drove for a bit, sometimes the idle would remain at a low 500 rpm, other times, the idle would just keep dropping until the car stalled. After doing some research, I thought it may be the IACV, so I got some carb cleaner, took off the iacv, cleaned it like the guy at Oreillys said to, let it dry out and put it back on. Now my car will start but immediately the rpms dive and my car stalls. Should I just get a new iacv or is something else wrong?
Re: Idle Issues
A good first test would be to open the hood up, pull off the fuse box cover under the hood, and remove the back-up fuse for ten seconds. (you will lose your radio stations). Put the fuse back in then, and start the car. If it doesn't die like it has been recently, leave it alone to idle for ten minutes (no load: lights, radio, air, etc turned off. DON'T rev it.).
