1998 Civic o2 sensor problems!!!
1998 Civic o2 sensor problems!!!
I have a 1998 Civic EX and I had codes coming up for both o2 sensors to be replaced (can't remember what the code #'s were). I replaced the o2 sensors and took fuse out to reset. Engine light came on soon after again o2 codes. I have no fuses blowing. I have been reading about a possible short in wires but wouldn't that cause a fuse to blow? Plus I am getting horrible gas mileage (23-25 city). Should I replace the wiring harness? Stuck and need help.
Re: 1998 Civic o2 sensor problems!!!
First, you need to diagnose for the specific codes before just throwing parts at it. Look up the specific codes again. Then download the service manual and diagnose for those specific codes.
Re: 1998 Civic o2 sensor problems!!!
I did have the codes checked before I threw parts on it. It was codes for both o2 sensors, upflow and downflow, so that is what I replaced. I just couldn't remember what the exact codes were to post them here. Was needing to know why they were coding again.
Re: 1998 Civic o2 sensor problems!!!
Because you didn't solve the problem just by replacing parts or it's mis-firing bad enough to kill the sensors and cat again.
There's several different codes for the O2 sensors: heater circuit problem, sensor circuit problem, sensor below or above threshold, etc.
6th gen service manual: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F1F25EH3 Download it and diagnose for your specific codes.
Please post up solutions.
