My 97 civic won't start:
Re: My 97 civic won't start:
Get up under the dash there will be a clutch switch you can bypass it 1 of 2 ways, 1 is to use a paper clip and insert either end into the back of the plug that is facing you, this will bypass it to test and see if that is what is causing the problem, the second is to cut the wires, strip some casing off and connect the 2. I would test it using a paper clip first before doing that though. Describe the symptoms more, does it attempt to turn over at all or is it just dead in the water no click or anything when you try to start it?
Re: My 97 civic won't start:
yea ,its just dead .... all i hear is the main relay & the fuel pumping......i had a viper alarm on it but i took it out cause i thought it was the C.O.D(cause of death)lol

Re: My 97 civic won't start:
well there may be a starter kill relay installed with the viper alarm that can stop the car from attempting to turn over, do you know if there was one installed with the alarm? Short of that I would say check all fuses, including the ones in the engine bay and make sure that all battery terminals are clean and tight, same for chassis and engine grounds, then move onto looking at the starter solenoid. You can test that with a jumper wire from the + terminal to the + activation terminal on the starter, should be a small nut holding it on and a 14 gauge or smaller wire. You have to make sure that the paperclip is touching off the bare metal clip for both sides of the clutch switch to bridge it successfully. Do you have a 12 volt test light by chance?
Re: My 97 civic won't start:
i took the alarm off so thats not the problem .. the starter is not the problem either cause id jumped it already and the car started fine.. is there a started relay for a 97 ek and if there is where is it located @????
Re: My 97 civic won't start:
you need to unzip it using winace or some program like that and you need adobe acrobat reader for it since its in pdf format. The relay I am refering to is the one that a lot of alarm installers will add that is inline with the starter wire on the ignition switch, they put it in there so the alarm can kill the starter output when it is armed and disarmed when you remove the alarm you may have missed the wiring for that. Under the steering column look for the ignition harness there are 2 bundles attached to the column using a white zip tie, see if its been cut and if they added a starter kill relay it may be in that area.
Re: My 97 civic won't start:
I replace the ignition on it so it's not that...so where's the starter relay located at cause it has to be that..I know is under the steering column but where exactly????

This was in my previous post you must have missed it.

Re: My 97 civic won't start:
i'm sorry but i must of wrote it this wrong cause i meant to say ignition harness its been replaced already the alarm is completely unistalled even the starter kill relay...and no there is no cut wire.....
Re: My 97 civic won't start:
then there has to be a cut or open wire somewhere along the wire for the starter, its the Black/White wire in that harness. I would try unplugging the clutch switch 1 more time and sticking the paperclip into that female end to give that 1 last check prior to going futher.
