Auto trans filter CHANGED
Auto trans filter CHANGED
here are pics of the cut away of the auto trans filter from my 2007 EX coupe
40,000 miles on it of ( new york stop and go).
At 20,000 i drain and filled ( 3 QTS)
aftter this was changed, I drained and filled again -3QTS.
A bit of a pain in the *** to get to ,but not impossible and not really any specail tools needed- ( I did buy a cable operated hose clamp piers - which I had to use) .

What is the filter element made out of?
Is it a fine mesh screen, a paper element, a fabric element?

Re: Auto trans filter CHANGED
im not even sure its a real filter in a traditional sense. i stopped using it because it would never really have anything trapped inside. im doubtful it does anything at all.

Re: Auto trans filter CHANGED
I was asking because I have never opened up that style of filter myself.
Inquiring minds want to know.
The teensy skinny round filters that got installed with a factory reman trans on 7th gen and earlier used fine screen. They were mostly intended to protect the fresh reman trans from any residual debris that might come out of the ATF cooler inside the radiator.

Re: Auto trans filter CHANGED
sorry for the late response.
the filter is actually paper/carboard, glued on both ends.
the is a metal perf tube down the middle.
I did see a check valve as well built into it as well.
I cut it open with a copper pipe cutter so there is no "shrapnel" .

Re: Auto trans filter CHANGED
I have a 2006 EX Coupe with 70k miles and have never changed the tranny fluid yet. Yes, I now know that it is way overdue. I have read quite a few posts and plan on doing the 3x drain/refill technique. I have located the drain plug (bolt in right side of tranny case with ~3/8" square hole in it). But where in the heck is this filter hidden?
I have followed hose #5 to tube #14 but I can not see where the other end of tube #14 connects to hose #4 and filter #7 (see attachment). If the diagram showed where tube #13 connected to the case it would help but it doesn't.
Would someone mind helping me locate it? Thanks.

Re: Auto trans filter CHANGED
I took another, much closer look and found it; on the drivers side rear of engine as CraigW mentions. Thanks.
From underneath I can see it and reach the lower spring clamp. I can not imagine how I would be able to get to the bolt holding the filter and the upper spring clamp from underneath. Do I need to remove the air filter box and access it from the top?
For the $25 that the filter costs I would prefer to replace it while I am at it.

It's like hanging out there in front of God and everybody!

Re: Auto trans filter CHANGED
Is the inline filter the only filter?
Is there a "strainer" inside of the trans also?
According to hondapartsnow.com and using my VIN on my 2010 EX-L there is both.
If that's the case would they be changed on the same schedule?
