I got another dumb question...
What would the sound quality of my components be if I were to take out my woofers and replace them with these . I currently have Quart PSDs, and they don't have the greatest midbass but the highs sound amazing to me. Would I be able to use the JL Woofers with the Quart PSD crossovers? If I could use these with the x-over I would buy them in a sec!!
I have a feeling that something won't work correctly if I do, and that is why I am asking.
I dunno if I have asked this is the past. I figure that with the Quart highs and the JL mids that would be an awesome comp set-up if I can match them up?
ty
edit: also if I were to do this set-up I would bi-amp the speakers, so each would have it's own channel running through the x-over if this makes any difference.

anyone
edit: and if anyone has any suggestions on a midbass/midrange speaker that is not to expensive, will fit in my door with out to much mod (I have already trimmed the plastic ring, and can match well with the quart tweeter and can be used with the x-over?

mixing and matching sets can be unpredictable. the only real way to know for sure is to try it out.
but most likely, you wont ever have a problem, no matter what teh speaker. some heavy midbass speakers include:
koda
DD
peerless CSX
JL XR
rockford fanatic

For the most part i'd assume that using a different speaker for your mids would work just fine. I'm pretty sure most if not all quarts tweeters are 6 ohm tweeters but their woofers are 4 ohm's so that wouldn't make a difference if you switched out the woofers.
by the way, would it make a difference if fonto used 4ohm tweeters instead of 6 ohm with the quart crossover?

From what I have read Koda is a great speaker, but isn't the magnet on it huge (same with the DDs, but I would assume both speakers could prolly kill the JLs in the midbass dept.)? That is why I was thinking about the JLs...they can probably fit pretty easily since I am looking for something for the stock location.
I have never really tested the RF Fanatic speakers ( i believe their are three lines), but I would be curious as to how they sound.
What about CDTs or Focal?
I have heard JLs in a car, and they sound pretty damn good...and I am salivating at the thought of that woofer with the quart tweets
I basically will have 60 watts going to each comp off of an MTX 4244, and I will have an easier time of matching up the speakers output because I will bi-amp each comp.
Edit: oh, and I think I read somewhere that the JLs might actually be 3.1 ohms, and I know focals are close to that too.

if you like more midbass, maybe put some midbass drivers in your doors, and then get some q forms for your quarts, you have a 4 channel amp right? do you have the psd 213 or 216's, i think the 216's might be kinda harder to squeeze into q forms.......
i've heard focals personally and i liked their mid bass very much, but i prefered the sound of quart tweeters myself so that's why i bought my quart q's
if you happen to go for a larger driver in your doors, just make sure you got enough room, i had to shave off some of the plastic inside my door panel to make my q's fit perfectly, but mb quarts take up a lot of space width-wise but with the neodium magnet the driver isn't too deep.

Yeah, I dremeled the whole plastic ring from inside of the door for my speakers, which are PSD 216...so the Q-form won't work...but something I had definantly thought of
Where is DD sold online anyway?
WR, Is it true that those Peerless speakers that you listed above are only $38?!?! Do they have good SQ? It sounds to good to be true, so what is the catch with them? There magnets look huge too. I wonder how hard it would to get Kodas in the door? I do have a jig, but i have never cut metal with it.

fonto, they are supposed to OUTPERFORM both DD (which can only be found new company direct www.ddaudio.com) AND koda. one of the next projects i want to go for is to get a set and try them out in my kicks, see how they match up to everything.
but all i have to go on righ tnow is what other people say, which is that they are absolutly badass, but you know audio enthusiasts, they change opinions about speakers more often then the ewind changes directions
you wanna get them first and tell ME how they sound?
the fanatic series that came out after RF bought mb quart.... the midbass can get pretty overbearing compared to the midrange. its not that bad of a problem on teh koda woofer, but its still more powerful.
Im actually going back to DD in my car, cuase i loved them so very much.
but if you are looking for a strong midbass voice, the koda might be better suited and if you are looking for insano midbass compared to the rest of yrou system, the fanatic woofer might be best.
the DD will have more range than any of the rest, but its more of a flat response in that respect, ive heard they have some response peaks, but i havent really noticed them yet, i prolly wouldnt have had i not been told (so im probably making them up rather than hearing them)
but thats all i can think about as far as ultra fine details in each speaker... oo! and install is everything!
just installed a set of infinity perfects as well, they might be deeper than bother DD or koda, and dont have overbearing midbass at all, but they sounded awesome, more smooth than the XR, but not as overbearing as the koda. definitely like a sweet sounding DD without the insane-o range.
so id add that to the list too

Today, I used a dremel and sanded down the spacer ring to get the speaker to sit flush on the edges...and I sanded all of the plastic on the speaker that was hitting the speaker hole. So I sealed it in a lot better. All I have is a lil dynamat speaker kit around the speaker though, but I have half a roll of fatmat in my closet...but I didn't have enough time to do that...maybe in a few weeks.
Honestly, I don't even notice midbass when I have the music up, but it is when it is low that I notice that it would be better if it was a lil louder.
I wonder if those foam baffle things would help the midbass reponse? ...or would I get a nasty peak?
WR, those Peerless speakers sound like a good deal whether they are good speakers or average speakers! $38 dollars sounds like a steal. From what I have seen on the net a lot of people with Peerless midbass have vifa tweets.
I have to find a place where I can hear the perfects... I was thinking of buying them when i got the quarts because I liked the kappas and reference speakers that I figured that the perfects would be better. I went with the quarts because I was able to hear them first and I loved how they sounded; I love the midrange vocals and the highs, but the midbass leaves something to be desired. The quarts matched well with the 10" perfects that I had, but not so much with Shiva because there seems to be a gap there. Anywayz, I don't know a single person that has the perfect comps in their car...for some reason I feel like I had heard them at a car show on an Infinity car, but i don't remeber if that car had perfects or Kappas.
i recently installed a set of perfects in a ford ranger, it was my first experience with them. everything about the kappa perfect is sexy, sexy woofer, sexy tweeter, sexy crossover. beautiful set
the midbass playing freeair was incredibly warm. it migh thave been on the low side, but there was definitely a voice! not liek the kappas where you sit there forever straining to hear what isnt there!
they kill teh kodas in output..... IF you dont take the time to well separate the backwave form teh front. sealed, the kodas kill perfects in output, but have a similar range.
unfortunately, i dont have a head to head for koda/perfect in equal installs, so i cannot directly compare them, but you cna get a general idea for the response, its definitely a sweet speaker! the smoothness of the tweeter (ill admit, it was far off axis) absolutely astounded me.
