Direct Connect to battery

Direct Connect to battery
Hey guys
ok, I have a power inverter, and the other day I connected up my computer to it and tried it out. Well the fuse to my 12v outlet blew, so I had to replace it.
Kinda upset that it couldnt power it (its under the max but higher than the continuous current)
I directly connected the power inverter to the battery. and vwala, it works!
So here is the deal, how do I connect my power inverter to my battery?
Do I have to go thru the firewall somehow and connect some prongs to it?
or is there a more easier way?
basically what I am afraid of is burning out the wires for the 12v, how much amps can they take anyways?

It seems that you just need to get the power from the battery, like when you connect an amp's power wire. What you'll want to do is get a thick enough wire, I think that probably 8 gauge should be thick enough for the inverter. You can get the power through a rubber grommet that is in the passenger side footwell. Then connect it to the inverter. Also, you'll want to put a fuse in line on the wire close to the battery, for safety reasons. then you get the negative power through the ground, just connect the negative to a bare spot ont eh chassis.

You shouldn't have to go directly to the battery with a power inverter. You can grab 12v right under the dash. Its a thick white wire which should supply plenty of power for an inverter.

Just my thoughts....definately run a new 12v line off the battery....I wouldent mess with tapping the main power lines for the car.
Plus I think those are stock 8 guage wires....I dont think you'll find a tap-in connector that size.

10 gauge should be fine really, and you can get 10 gauge wiring kits very cheap off ebay.. here's one with RCAs for 6.99 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=32808

I look at it like this. If the power wire under your dash is used to remote start your car, which is normally double 30 amp fuses, then it should easily power an inverter and is much easier to get to. All you have to do is go right under the steering column. No need to play with going thru the firewall.

If the power wire under your dash is used to start the car, do you REALLY want to start tapping accessories off it?
If you accidently mess it up, your car might not start....not a good thing. and the starter power wire is only neede to start the car and to power the other parts of the car. it was made to either start the car, or power everything. when you start yoru car, everythign else turns off so all the power can go to the starter.. and when the car's started, the power is needed to power all the other electronics, not your inverter. just run a 10 gauge line, it's simple, cheap, effective and a lot better than messing with teh car's stock wire.
Actually that power wire under the dash does run all the accessories in the car. It feeds power to all the ignitions and accessories in the car when you turn the key on.
And by the power starter wire I didn'y mean the actual starter wire. I'm just saying when installing a remote starter that where 12v is grabbed (on the solid white wire)
