2002 MY electrical question

i have a 2k1 ex coupe with no alarm.
i have a friend that has a 2k2 ex sedan with a factory alarm, and he was saying that he doesnt want to change the factory HU because it messes with the factory alarm in some way. he was saying that if you remove the factory headunit, the alarm will not work(or something to that extent).

has anyone heard anything about this? is this true or is he high?
