new alt. whine problem

ok. I installed kappa components a/b 6 months ago. Ever since then,
i've been getting that alt. whine that everyone's had problems with.
The thing is, it stops whenever i open my driver door. I dont understand it.
my RCA's are run with my power wire, but why would that be different when
my door is open? Its the strangest thing! Does anyone else have these problems?

Your power wire shouldn't be run next to your RCAs not matter what! This is most likely your problem, but I have no idea why it goes away when you open your door...maybe you can't hear the whine anymore because your door is open.

yeah, just definately move the power wire away from the RCA's it will most likely fix your problem.

Run speaker wires with RCAs. Power lead has a large electric field surrounding it due to the large current flowing through it. I dunno why you can't hear it when your door is open though.

yeah it's so weird. When i turn my radio off- no whine. If i turn it on
and turn the volume all the way down it's whining like crazy and
of course it accelerates when i hit the gas. Most of the time i'm
drive w/ my door ajar just so i won't hear the noise.
I'm running new wires in a few days cuz i'm getting a 12" MASS!!
I'm running the power cable on the other side this time. Hopefully
this will work. Still weird tho....

Move your power wire to the opposite side ofd the car (or the RCAs which ever is easier). Odds are though that this will not totally cure the problem. Chances are that you have a bad ground. Ussually the deck groung or the amp. Change both of thoses as well, drill into some thick metal do NOT wrap a wire around a factory bolt and say good enough.

As far as it only whining when the radio is on, if you have the remote turn on lead wired to an aftermarket HU, when the radio is off the amp is off so no whine. Check out this page, it details alternator whine pretty well and it may help you troubleshoot your problem a little better.
