My system's installed! Finally...

Here are some pics of my system - pretty much all installed now.

Up front I have a pair of Pioneer Premier components, and in the back I have some Infinity Kappa co-axials. These are driven by a V12 Alpine 4 channel amp. I mounted the head unit where the stock storage pocket was. I originally tried using one of those Metra kits and wasn't happy with the results. Besides, when I take my faceplate off the system "looks stock" - I even have the door/trim of the stock storage pocket to stick over the head unit when the face is off...

I have a pair of neat blue LED spotlights that illuminate my cupholder area, wired with a switch hidden in the pocket close to the cruise control and sunroof controls. I included a few pics of my sound-deadening which took a whole day in 90°+ heat. I used a product called miniGARD Pro. It's used for installing roofing, and does a pretty good job compared to dynamat. It's a bit harder to work with though, because once you take the backing off it's sticky as HELL!

As for subs, I have a pair of JL Audio 12W0's in a sealed box that I built myself. I'm using an old Sony Xplod HX1002 amp to drive them. That will be upgraded to a larger/better amp when I get the funds...

I really like the idea of where the head unit is. It would look amazingly stock when you put the compartment door over. Nice job!

I like the color of your sub box... hehe. But doesn't look like you have much trunk space!

Nice install...

You should also really sound deaden the door.. trunk wise..only the trunk lid and rear deck really need to be done..anything else is overkill. But the doors should be properly deadened as well... Lookin good so far .

Cheers

Interesting note: I painted my box using a 3" roller with left-over latex indoor house paint. My room was painted that colour when I was much younger, found a gallon in the basement and voila...

As for my sub amp - ya, It's going VERY soon. First of all, it's not doing those subs justice, second of all it get REALLY hot even at moderate volume. For now, I have the gain set pretty low - wanna make sure I don't feed my woofers distortion = possible damage to the voicecoils! Mind you, I've had that amp for about 3 years now, and it's worked fine. It used to drive my front speakers when I had a miata...

I'm going to deaden my front doors next week too. I'm installing neon tubes in the footwells and in the door pockets - going to have to take apart my doors anyway.

KLAM: I'm just north of Toronto in Markham...

Ya, the stock head unit is still plugged in and fully functional. Mind you there are no speakers attached to it, obviously. It still lights up and tells the time though (lol). I did some additional work on my trunk lid - notably in the area behind the license plate, on the inside. It turns out that there are two pieces of sheet metal that are in contact and not welded. So, I took apart some clothespins and used them as wedges. I stuck them in, and used expanding aerosol foam to fill every possible nook and cranny. The result: my entire car is now 100% rattle free at full volume.

My next project is installing blue neon tubes in the front and rear footwells - and in the pockets in the door. I'm going to hook it up such that they turn on when the doors open. Basically I'm going to install an OFF-DOOR-ON switch, like the dome light switch that controls these neon tubes. I'll post a DIY if anyone's interested - I have the wiring figured out, it's all a matter of actually doing it!

NeXCIVICEX: There is a DIY in the DIY section - check it out, that's where I learned how to remove the old headunit and install a new one. I won't go into details here, but it's a pretty straightforward process.

My project continues... I installed two 12" blue neon tubes in the front footwells, and two 10" tubes in the rear footwells (under the front seats). Damn, it looks downright sick! I wired it so that they turn on when the doors open, also have "ON" and "OFF" switch positions too. I got all the tubes for $150CDN, no tax. Money well spent, my interior looks amazing now - and it matches the blue of my headunit pretty well too. Will post pics soon...
