Possible fuse blown during stereo install

It's too late right now for me to pull out every fuse and check which ones are blown, I checked the radio fuse and it is still intact.

Background: 2001 Honda Civic EX. Didn't disconnect neg. battery connection during radio install and hopefully I only blew a fuse. Also I tried to install radio a few months ago and ran into problems and just left the wires exposed when we drove the car tucked behind the dash.

Can anyone give me the most common fuses to check for when this happens, or if you suspect it could be more than a fuse let me know your theory. Power locks don't work when key isn't in ignition, but works when they are in. Radio wont even turn on (which may be wiring problems or fuse of some sort).

Any help or opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I know I am a noob and did many things wrong so please just let me know how to fix it and refrain from unhelpful comments to make me feel like an idiot.

Re: Possible fuse blown during stereo install

Sure I'll kick things off for you.

The 2 wires your mainly concerned with are the red and yellow. Red is constant power and yellow is ignition power. If you left them bare so that they could touch parts of the car behind the dash then you could have blown whatever fuse the circuit came in contact with. Any of the metal behind the dash is ground and that would blow your radio fuse which should be down on your drivers side fuse box. If those wires came in contact with say your climate control, gauge cluster, etc then it could have blown that circuit as well. It's possible could have done more damage beyond that but you should get in there and check the wiring to see what's going on and tape up those live wires if they are exposed.

Good Luck!

Edit: there's usually a fuse on the back of the head unit (stereo) as well. You should check that while you're in there.

"back up" fuse in under-hood box.

Thanks, I guess I'll just go through all the fuses when I have time.

Also, did you connect the illumination wire? If so, disconnect it.

Find the fuse called "back up" in the under-hood box. There are spare fuses as well.

And also check those illumination wires as mentioned before you power it up or you will have a real headache on your hands.
