Confused about 2002 EX stereo harness
Confused about 2002 EX stereo harness
I have a 2002 Civic EX sedan and am replacing the existing nonfunctional JVC AM/FM/CD player with a similar Pioneer unit. I can't imagine that this is the factory stereo, but I was surprised to see that the car's connector was plugged directly in without an adaptor harness.
The problem I am having is that the harnesses from Scosche and Metra do not match up with the car's connector. The actual connectors on both of them are a little different than the car's connector (the Scosche actually has four less pins), but they will slide in with a little extra effort. However, the pins are in completely different locations than the factory connector, with some usd pins matching up with unused pin locations on each side. Also, when I search for wiring diagrams for the car, I find an entirely different set of colors than what is present. (That is, the wire colors in the car connector are the same as in the harnesses and the Pioneer connector but the diagrams seem to list a different combination). It almost seems like the previous owner replaced the car's connector, but there are no splices and it looks to be factory.
Does this make sense, and does anyone have any idea about what is going on? Thanks!

Re: Confused about 2002 EX stereo harness
That or the cheap bastard took out all the pins of the oem harness and repin them on the radio harness. I have witness this type of level of cheapness. OP can you that a pic of this harness maybe with the wire colors someone here might see if that's what they did.
Re: Confused about 2002 EX stereo harness
Thanks for the replies. Here's a pic of the connector. Does it look like factory equipment? (There was a locking tab but it broke off when I was trying to jam it into the adapter harness)

I posted a reply with a picture yesterday, but it said it needed to be approved by a moderator. In case it got lost in the fog, here's a link to the pic of the connector:

It used to have a locking tab but it fell off when I was trying to attach the adapter harness. Does it look factory original to you?

If you view my profile, you can see a pic of the connector. (My other attempts at showing the pic are awaiting moderator's approval and I'd like to work on the car soon)
Does that look like original equipment? It sure looks professional but it doesn't make sense to me.
And I have to ask about the blue wire. From what I read here, the sedan has no antenna booster, so I don't need to connect it, right?
(What does Honda have against sedans, anyway? Are they doorists?
)

If I am recalling correctly, the wiring harness in my 02 EX looks nothing like that.
Edit: But according to the pic seen here it appears to be OEM

Re: Confused about 2002 EX stereo harness
Thanks for replying. I followed the wires up into the dash and the plastic cover over the harness... and found where the previous owner clipped the old connector off and attached the JVC one (twisted and taped only). I got rid of that and crimped on my Pioneer connector, correcting the other guy's reversed wires for the left front. Stereo plugged in, fired right up, all is good now.
