Radio/CD Issue

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my speakers(2 JBL GTO508C in the doors and 2 JBL GTO938 in the rear deck) and installed an amp(JBL GTO 504) to power them from my stock head unit.

At first I used a 3.5mm to RCA to plug my iphone into my Amp and listen to music. It worked flawlessly but eventually I rigged up the stock headunit with a low level convertor so it could be plugged into my Amp and I could listen to CD's and the radio. This is where my problems stat.

Whenever I turn the volume up, past a certain limit, on my headunit or add more bass the sound cuts out and intermittently comes back. It happens a lot easier(at a lower volume) when im playing a CD. I never had this issue when I was using the 3.5mm to RCA and just playing music off my iPhone.

I replicated this issue again while also looking in the trunk to see if anything was going on with my Amp and saw the red protect light was flashing as were the light bars. I looked this up and found out that the protect LED and bars flash when any of the following occur:
1. Battery over/under voltage
2. short circuit in speaker wires
3. amplifier is too hot
4. amplifier’s output circuit has failed (DC voltage present in the amplifier’s output).

I'm thinking it's #1 and my battery is not providing enough current or something becasue the issue doesn't occur when i am plugging in an iphone to play music and only when the headunit is used. Maybe the headunit is using too much power on the system when the amp is at high volume?? I'm really not sure and am hoping someone is able to shed some light on the issue.

Thanks!!
