Okay to wire front and back speakers to the same output?

I just installed a new stereo in my 05 LX, and I noticed that the rear speakers don't work at all. The speakers work fine with the stock radio, and a multimeter tells me there is nothing wrong with the wiring harness I had to splice together. I'm going to return the radio, but it's going to be a while before I'll be able to deal with the return process. Just having the front speakers irritates the hell out of me. the sound quality is terrible and people in the back seat can't hear anything. Also, I'm starting a 1500-mile trip on friday.

tl;dr:
Aside from losing fade control and surround sound (which I don't have), is there any reason to not wire the front and back speakers to be on the same output wires?

You have to be careful that you aren't overloading the receiver. The safest way is to wire in series but you will lose a lot of sound. (Stereo + to 1st speaker +. 1st speaker - to 2nd speaker +. 2nd speaker - to stereo - for each side)
That being said as long as you aren't pushing it or if the speakers are 8ohm, then you will be fine wiring in parallel. (+ to + and - to - for both speakers from the receiver)

it will prolly blow the stereo. i would recommend installing the stock radio back til you can figure out the problem.

alright, I'd rather not risk it. What about wiring the front output to go only to the back? the back speakers have considerably better sound quality than the front ones.

yeah you can trade speakers if you want. like only hook up the rears to the front inputs. the fader will just be backwards when you adjust the radio settings.
