Question 2001 Civic - Doors locks sticking/freezing?

The doors locks on two doors of my [wife's] 2001 Civic LX would not open automatically with the keyfob the other night. The car has been in the driveway and the nights have been very cold. Could this be a sign the Actuators may be failing? Having just had to replace the Actuator on my 2003 CR-V Driver Door has me suspicious.

Problem: No warranty left on Civic. $33.86 plus tax per door, and DIY instructions from YouTube! No problem.

Re: 2001 Civic - Doors locks sticking/freezing?

Do they work o.k. if you work them up & down a few times with the lock/unlock button on the door ??

My passenger actuator got slow over time and would work o.k. if cycled a few times then would get slow again after sitting for a while. Also the pulse used to lock unlock with the remote is very short and provides a good test for a weak actuator. My defective side made extra noise when activated.

Re: 2001 Civic - Doors locks sticking/freezing?

this happened to me recently where it got cold and most of my locks would stay down or only pop up half way. i also noticed weird noises, prolly due to the motors working too hard. so i took off all the door panels and sprayed silicone lube all over the locking rods and mechanism near the latch and everything is back to normal. the locks also go up and down much easier when you move them manually. i think they just got dirty and sticky over time and needed a lil cleaning. also while you have the doors open, spray the window tracks with silicone too, it will make them open and close faster.
