PIONEER AVIC-D3 installation in a 2005 civic EX SE Coupe
Hi guys,
I successfully installed a pioneer avic-d3 in my 2005 civic ex se coupe. haven't seen too many pics of that model installed here on the forums, so if anyone needs pictures, just pm me and i'll send em over.
Anyways, my question is:
When i installed the avic-d3 in the double-din slot, i was replacing it with the factory 6-disk special edition radio, so i didn't need any special kit to convert the slot to a double since it was already built for a double din from the factory.
However, the trim around the d3 does not meet flush with the edges of the inner edges of the double-din slot, so i got the metra trim piece that goes around the radio to seal the gap around the gps unit. The problem is that the special edition has a different kind of trim around the radio. By trim i mean the part that has the a/c controls in it. So now what's happening is that the metra trim kit doesn't fit flush into the dash, it sits on top of the dash. When i went to the metra website to check the trim kits compatibility with the EX SE, it said no it wasn't compatible. It said that it was compatible with all 2005 civics except the SE models. so now i know that the SE models have different dash compared to all the other civic models. i was wondering if i could replace my current dash trim with that of a civic LX or non-SE civic and would it be a direct fit? I know its weird explaining it, i can post up pics tommorrow so you guys will know what i'm talking about. I'm hoping somebody on the forums has had this issue with their EX SE's.
thanks

did you install this in a special edition civic? thanks for the picture btw, this was exactly the look i was talking about in my original post

nope. Its in a regular single dash from a 04 civic ex 2dr. I just bought the metra indash kit for the double dins for our car, cut that mid bar and slid it in. If you look carefully on the first and second picture, you can see where I cut it off on the side.

Help! I tried pulling out the dash on this vehicle thinking it was all simple clips like most vehicles are these days but there seems to be a metal bracket or something that is attached to the stock 6 disc changer that does not allow it to be pulled out. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks jrob1742@yahoo.com

u need to remove your center console and then remove the ashtray / power socket part. (just above your cupholders.) then look up and u'll see 2 bolts. these bolt the radio bezel in.

i have an 05 civic lx se and im about to get the same radio. where can i get the HVAC unit to replace the one i have so that the head unit will fit. also, what is the part number for it?
Re: PIONEER AVIC-D3 installation in a 2005 civic EX SE Coupe
) the only thing your changing is the part that evreyting mounts too and then gets mounted into the dash. i got a 02 civic EX coupe and it fits just fine. u'll see when u take it apart. EDIT: oh only tihng is that u will have to take off the A/C unit (w/ the ***** and plugs) to get to that side of the radio to unscrew/ screw it in
