stereo/central locking

hi guys as you can see im new to the forum ...im sorry my first post is a question but i was doing some work on my car today and hit quite a major problem lol ...so obviously i have been searching around for some info and that how i found you ..anyway to my problem i was trying to upgrade my stereo ( rom an aftermarket alpine hu which worked fine) to a motorised dvd player with a reverse camera ...i already had a wiring harness which converted the standard one so i have not cut any original wiring i connected the new stereo's harness up tested the stereo and it worked ok then i tried to connect the reverse camera up loose (have not drilled any holes yet just wanted to get it working before i do that) but anyway i didnt work so i checked all my wiring again and all seemed fine - still didnt work so instead of having the red positive wire to the red wire on the harness i just touched it on the yellow which i think is the ignition ( on advise of my mate ) which was when the major problems started ... when i tried to turn the stereo back on i had no power at all so i checked the 2 stereo fuses which are fine i also tried my old HU in but that wasnt working either ...so i have looked in my manual and checked the fuse in the fuse box (bottom row 3rd in from the right 7.5 amp) it looked ok ...so anyway it was getting dark so i decided to pack up for the day and have a go in the morning but when i went to lock my car with the fob it didnt lock ..even with the spare key so ive checked the fuse under the bonnet and that seems ok ...i have disconnected the non standard harness so there is no none standard wire connected to the car exept one which is connected to the positive wire going to the reverse light ...like i said im going to hav a go at getting it working tommorrow im going to buy a haynes manual but i was just wondering if any of u had any ideas ...oh btw 1 thing i did notice is that when i lock the car with the key i can only lock one door at a time its the same if i sit in the car i can push the button down and 1 door will lock but if i have got the engine running and push the button down all 4 doors lock with the central locking ..also when i indicate left it idicates really fast as though the relay is on its way out but not right?? ...anyway sorry for the long post and my really bad puntuation u have take a breath now thanks for reading

Re: stereo/central locking

firstly it sounds like u simply poped a fuse. i know u said u checked the fuses but u need to check ALL the fuses. i've seen fuses marked "alternator" control emmisons and the like. somting u would never think having the same funton could share the fuse. any check ALL the fuses both under the dash and under the hood.

u said u hooked up the cammera to the radio power and it "blew the fuse" or "stoped working" did u see any kinda spark at all? make sure your cammera wires arnt crushed or shorted.

Re: stereo/central locking

thanks for the reply diemaster i will check all fuses in the morning as for the camera i have 3 wires coming from it 1 is for the picture like a male rca plug the other 2 are obviosly the positive and neutral (red and black) at first when the dvd player was working i had the positive from the camera going to the positive red wire behind the dvd and i also had the black neutral to the black wire behind the dvd ... like i said at this point the dvd player was working but the camera wasnt so i tried to connect the red wire to the yellow wire at the back of the dvd ( which is the ignition or the memory back up 12v wire) there wasnt any sparks /crackles or pops lol ...also while we are on this subject does anyone know of a website or link that explains how/where to fit a bumper mounted camera? thanks again
