2005 Civic Radiator Fan NOT Spinning

Had some work done on my 2005 Civic, when I looked up the hood after I got home I noticed the radiator and A/C fans were not hooked up to the electrical sockets. So I plugged them in, but I don't see either fans spinning. Now it is cold here, like -7 C (19 F) and the temp guage shows the normal temp after the trip home with needle a little below 1/2 way.

So now I wonder if the fan should stay on all the time or are they temp sensitive controlled ? If so, at what temp should they spin?

Re: 2005 Civic Radiator Fan NOT Spinning

the radiator fan is controlled by the engine coolant temperature switch (different from the ECT sensor). Ive got a 2005 EX btw...

I understand that our thermostat begins to open ~180F, and the cooling fan comes on at ~190F.

The other fan only seems to come on if the compressor is operating.

If you really want the fan to run all the time, you can just wire the fan up to a relay instead, then wire the relay to a switch.

Turn on the A/C and look at fans, That will make both fans run as a quick test.

^^^ good idea. The coolant temp gauge that honda installed (on my ex anyway) is more like a cold-normal-danger gauge. Ive been @ 240F by my autometer gauge before, and the honda temp gauge still read normal until I was at 250.

Im going to look up the temps. If I can find the exact values, Ill post them here soon, unless you find out before then. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried turning on the A/C and fans did not turn. It's going back in the shop next week.

Some fuses to check before bringing it in:

underhood fuses
fuse #1 (condenser fan) 20A constant
fuse #4 (cooling fan) 20A constant

underdash fuse
fuse #14 (R/C mirror) 10A ignition
