Re: Simple Question

i believe there is a relay that gets power from the headlight circuit. just wire it up to a constant power source, or something that's switched by the ignition, like the radio. i'll probably be doing this when i install mine.

Re: Simple Question

I would probably use another relay and just use the parking lights (+) on 85 and then 12v constant on 30... Better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Simple Question

Yes you can.. you're better off ordering somewhere online though. At a place like Autozone, you're looking at spending $8 for a relay that costs like.. $1.

yup

30A relay $1.50
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=330-073

30A fuse holder $1.25 (these are really good quality. i have 4 of them on my HID harness. HID's in the headlights and the fogs.)
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=070-675

the wire is 10ga and it's really small, fine wire strands. really flexible. it's audio cable quality.

relay socket $1.75

Re: Simple Question

I'm basically in love with partsexpress.com The pricing is really good and they carry a lot of other stuff too aside from just parts. I ordered two MTX loudspeakers for my guitar from them!

Re: Simple Question

You dont even need a relay. Powersource (battery or fuse box) with inline fuse, to switch, ground from switch, power from switch to foglight harness. I think I am using a 20 or 25 amp fuse in mine, but depending on what year car you have, the bulbs and therefore the current is going to be different.

depends on what bulbs you have. if you have 55w, then you'll be pulling close to 10A through the switch. i've done this in the past and even 15A switches have burned out within 6 months. on a previous car, i replaced the fog light switch 4 times. if you have an OEM switch, i would highly recommend using a relay. for one, i don't know what they're rated at. two, they're a lot more expensive to replace than a $2 switch from Autozone.

Re: Simple Question

So you're probably better off running a relay just to be on the safe side. It's like $1.50 and you're good up to 30 amps. Sometimes up to 40 depending on the kind you get.

pretty much. after burning up so many switches in the past, i'd rather be safe than sorry. i haven't had a single switch go bad on me since i've been using relays.

that's just the way most OEM type fogs are, no matter what the brands. just look at fords, chevys, toyota, whatever. if they're halogen OEM fogs, they're usually pretty annoying to oncoming traffic. projector fogs are really the only ones that aren't that bad. i went with HID projector fogs

yeah, if you bought just the relay and nothing else. i buy stuff from them all the time though and buy multiples. but still, if you were to get the relay, the socket and a fuse holder (assuming you needed all of these), then it's more practical. or when you buy 4 relays, 4 sockets, 4 fuse holders, crimp connectors, split loom tubing, heat shrink and fabricate your own complete lighting harness for low beam, high beam and fog lights, then the cost is cheap compared to buying local. i did this for my HID lows, HID fogs, and 100w overwattage high beams. i put out some serious light at night!

Re: Simple Question

on my oem fogs, i just went behind the switch and cut the wire that got hot only when headlights were on and connected it to the 12v socket power. so i can use em whenever the ACC is active. here is with parking lights, but they can stay on whenever the key is in.

Gearbox, did you use a relay in relation with your keysense wire for that? So like as soon as you put your key in (not turning it to ACC, ON, or START) they come on?
