Hey guys. I looked around the site but couldnt get a difinitive answer on this one. I have the an 02 ex. Recently i've upgraded my stock system with 4 ways all around. should i simply take out the stock tweeters to provide a better balance of sound? it sounds good, but just a little to much high level if you ask me. thoughts?

I have a pair in the sails and my kicks. I also run Silk domes which are natural sounding. Did you try adjusting the X-overs?

Out of curiousity, what do you have the extra tweeters hooked up to? Your head unit? Along with your 4 way speakers? If you just have everything jerry rigged together and not properly amped and x-over'd the you might run into some problems. Which 4 ways did you purchase? I havnt seen many on the market with the exception of the ones pioneer puts out, along with their rediculous 5 ways. You also have to keep in mind that <usually> the more drivers on a speaker and typically the more expensive the speaker, the more it is supposed to be used in an amplified system along with proper low end reenforcement (AKA mid basses and subwoofers). In other words 4 ways and 5 way speakers are not going to put out rich low/mid frequencies and are primarily used to re-enforce the higher end of the spectrum.

Its all up to you, you could leave the stock tweeters in if you like, you should just make sure everything is wired correctly. You DONT want everything just plugged into your head units internal amplifier, which is most likely only meant to be run at 4 ohms nominally. You also have to make sure everything is x-over properly (AKA make sure all the lows are going to where the lows should be, and the highs are going to where the highs should be). If everything is good, just adjust the equalizer on your headunit and take out some of the treble/high frequencies.

If you find the highs are too much for you, and don't want the tweeters. Don't bother putting empty sails in there. I think the car looks better with speakers there. Plus you have to spend the extra money to buy the sails.

Just simply disconnect the factory tweeters. Its just one wire. Its connected to a harness, and you just unclip it. It takes virtually 2 seconds to do it. If you can take your door panel a part, you'll have no problems doing this. I'm currently doing this in my ride. However, my project is a work in progess right now. I'm hoping to finish my stuff today. Thank god for a day off work, woohoo.

Re: To many tweeters?

I have a question, where did you find 4-ways for the front. Most I've seen is 3-way for the 6-1/2, cause thats what I have, then 4-way in the rear.

Also please don't tell me everything is sony.....

The Ipod doest sound better than a CD for some reason ... I had the same problem ...to me it sounded like my brand new Kenwood components had been Punctured like a ping pong ball or something ... i took off the ipod and voila !!!! ... FOr some reason the IPOD equalizer settings dont go well with our factory or aftrmrkt headunits...

I think think it is more likely the head unit that is to blame for the poor auxilary sound. Just to warn you, sony speakers are notorious for frying and having multiple other problems. Hell my first sub system way back when was a sony package....amp/subs and they fried with the resomended amp that came with it, at moderate to low settings. I will say, the amp has lasted though, I still use it as an "in-between amp". There headunits are also said to have lots of bugs...screens cut in and out, internal amps overheat, processor issues, interference, etc.

That really all depends on the head unit. Plenty of head units out there today have integrated Ipod compatibility that allows you to control just how much the sound is processed through the head units. I know Ipods sound great with every pioneer deck that Ive ever used one on, they sound great with the alpines Ive tried them on as well. This is all having them directly connected to the head units of course, not through one of those connect-through-radio signal type deals. Those are just asking for crappy sound and interference.
