Headphone style Aux cables
Headphone style Aux cables
For the 6-disc SE unit, I am planning on purchasing an aux cable to play my ipod.........the question I have is there any differences in cables???
there are two main types on ebay, one for $1 and another for $6, can they really be that different? $6 is supposedly gold plated...who knows
Are there any better ones, soundwise? is spending more ie.$30 going to make a difference (assuming there is something like that out there?)

I do a lot of pro audio mixing, and have several recording setups... people in the music industry that know their stuff say cables will make or break the track. And for a lot of applications thats true. Car audio? I dunno- depends on your setup. If you happen to be running some higher end stuff (and not just for the bass) you'll notice a difference. If your running stock, or just a sub, or something semi-cheap, their wont be a huge difference- but their will be a slight difference. Most peoples ear's are not trained to pick up the small differences between two speakers, amps, headphones, or cables... Personally I'd go with the more expensive one because I notice the difference no matter what.
As far as cables go.. three MAIN types exist:
Ur regular cable that has connectors that look like some chrome rims, that have copper wiring. These are your basic cable and get the job done.
Gold plated- which yeilds better connectivity and better frequency responce, still copper wiring
And silver.. yes, silver. Silver has better connectivity than gold, but you really got to look hard to find cables made of silve instead of copper.
To give you an idea of the price differences... Let me tell you what a decent 20 ft mic cable costs with these three different types
cheap metal w/ copper--> 15+
gold plated with copper--> 50+
silver cable --> 150+++
the reason for the price difference is due partly to the materials, but then again its also do to the face with the more expensive you go, the better quality you get.
SO... just to recap. The crappy cables arent going to sound good, go with gold plated if you want to never frown at how your music sounds from your ipod or whatever you connect it to.. go with silver if your a baller and have money to burn. All in all, your talking about a 5 dollar difference.. .you've got to be stupid to go with the cheap-0 cable. And of course- beware of ebay!!
Hope that helps!
