for the blueish headlights...
for the blueish headlights...
if i want to acheive a blueish effect on my headlights, like the newer cars have, how would i do it, do i need all new headlights or just bulbs? sorry for the noob question
thanks
thanks
I just bought some Cool Blue Phillips bulbs. There not really blue just a LOT whiter than stock lights. I got them cause I didn't want to put some money into HIDs since the bulbs were only $20 vs $375 for HIDs.

you dont need HID's, its just bulbs... there are a bunch of articles on how to instal HID's allready on this site.
From everything i've read, its pretty easy- do above if needed and just find a place to put the ballasts. Depends on what leadlights your putting the HID's in though. If your triyng for the OEM or TYC, there are articles on here... here is another thread with a decent wire diagram.

^ this is for adding a relay, but type HID wiring diagram into google and you'll get more info then you can handle.
also, www.hidplanet.com is a great place to find many answers- these people know tons.

here is a link to a retrofit if you want to go that route with the TYC's

That is exotic...
12000k plug-in HID bulbs IMO = rice.
Exotic does cost money.
HIDs are not rice. Blue halogen bulbs are rice. Just thought Id clear that up.
...and not everyone has $1000+ for lights. We were just giving him ideas that were a little more affordable, even thought HID plug and play kits arent exactly cheap either. After getting everything retrofitted in your car, that setup would be rediculously expensive.

Its the actual reflector in the headlight housing, because all OEM HID kits come with 4100K bulbs which do not produce blue light. To acheive that blue light look like BMW's, you need the hid headlight housing from a BMW. Otherwise you'll never achieve that blue tinge.
If your not referring to the blue that you see on BMW's, you can produce blue light with 6000k hid kits or higher.

all bmw's use hid projectors if they are equiped with an hid option...mercedes has used reflectors previously but now are all oem projectors...from a reflector or projector from a distance all hid lighting will have a blueish aura around it but sometimes you wont be able to see it because of the blue or purple color of light...
I don't have all the time to explain everything, but here is a start..
The fancy/flashy blues and purples you see on OEM HID equipped cars are just the colors along the top of the cutoff band. Projector headlights typically have some form of color band where the lighted area changes to dark. Some cars are yellow (like some of the Infiniti FX) and some are very colorful blues, purples and other nice looking deep colors (like S2000, TL etc).
The light that the projectors spread across the pavement is WHITE. It's white so that the driver can see the road clearly. Blue light on the ground does not help you see better, only worse (especially in rain).
So in short, the nice looking lights you see aren't really colorful lights.. it's just the attractive color band between light and dark that you see flickering at you as the OEM projector equipped vehicle is moving over bumps in the road. If your eyes catch it right between the dark and lit line, you will see the flashes of pretty colors.
Plug in HID bulbs for your stock assembly is completely inferior. Some people may think it is cool or not rice, and some people think it's a waste of money and is rice.
for lots of good info, see www.hidplanet.com also talk to Gearbox here who I know has a projector retrofit, or talk to Jay78 who has many high end HID projector parts and many retrofits done or in the works.
The output and 'look' of a projector retrofit beats a cheap HID kit implant in every category. It costs more, but it's better. End of story.

if you cant see... get fogs itll help! the hids arent the best for extreme weather. all the factory, hid equipped cars have a halogen fog or high beam to help penetrate the adverse weather out there!
