Looking for a sub. NOOB.

Mmmkay. At the moment I have a pretty cheap xplod 10". Not sure of the model, too lazy to take it out and find it. Either way, its cracked and theres something wrong with my wiring. I blew a fuse and my amp started smoking. I'm hoping the smoking was the wiring OUTSIDE the amp, but I'm not sure. I'm looking to buy another 10" sub, dont know where to start. The one I had got the job done, so I'd like something a little more powerful, for not too much money. 100-180$ or so? Any tips?

First: I wouldn't go back to Sony and I would prolly stay away from Rockford. (Just my opinion tho.)

I would say a Alpine Type-E would be fairly cheap...I love my Type-S tho(2 12s for $160). Can't go wrong with Eclipse either.
Look around on www.SoundDomain.com you can look around on there and see what best fits you.

Went on sounddomain and found a nice 10" Kicker CompVR CVR104 for $130, or Eclipse had one for $80 or $150. Just depends on what your really looking for.

cool. Thanks. I found those for 55$ on Froogle.

I would really love double 12" or double 10", but then I'd have to get a new enclosure. Is it really tricky to build an enclosure? Nothing amazing, just something basic that'll work. Could I buy a cheap one?

Infinity references subs. Cheap, pound pretty hard, and very clean output. Anybody that owns one can vouch for that.

I personally hate Audio Express....here in St. Louis I use Custom Sounds.
I got my box for $50 when I bought my subs but they gave me a bit of a discount since I bought subs, amp, wires and install. Its a really cheap box but it still pounds..could prolly sound better with a better box but oh well, college takes more money.

well let me clarify what i was trying to say....

audio express is good becuase they have a good selection of audio products, and often they give you a good deal if you buy enough parts or if they have a special going on.

but i don't like audio express' customer service. the guys that helped me looked like they were stealing cars the day before, and i almost chewed out the manager for being shady and offering a better deal to another customer right in front of me.

still, theres not too many places i can think of besides audio express and maybe best buy that will do all things audio for a fair price.

one thing tho, if they want you to buy the warranty, dont. what a waste of money, the subs are like 50 a peice, so when they blow they blow and i'll buy a newer, better one. **** wasting money now thinking they'll actually stand by the warranty when it does blow out.

im a huge JL fan. i have two 12W1's in my vic and it rocks. got them on a 300 watt monoblock alpine amp. great subs for about $130 a piece. i got the first one and the amp brand new for $45 because my buddy owed me money and never payed me back. i bought the other sub and built the enclosure myself.
